Thursday:
Non-Aggression Area

For once, we'll be reviewing a card that isn't a -1.

It's a -2!

This card has so much working against it.  You have to use it in your Standby phase and wait until next turn for its effect to actually do anything (meaning your opponent can prepare for it with what they do during their turn, whether or not they activate certain Traps, etc.)  You have to discard a card -- that almost automtically gets it thrown out of consideration for any Deck I make.  And finally, it doesn't actually cost your opponent any cards -- it prevents them from Summoning or setting.

This card's better version:  Forced Back.  It negates a summon, can screw your opponent out of Flip effects, and if used against a Tribute Summon, breaks even in card advantage (as they still lose their Tributed monster) and you essentially gained a free turn on them.

Not much else to say here, except don't play this card -- ever.

For the fourth time in a row, 1/5 all.  Will this streak extend through the end of the week?  Stay tuned...

Coin Flip
Thursday:

In the interests of confusing some fellow, I wrote a very bad review yesterday. Never you mind.

Anyway, today we've got Non-Aggression Area, a card with a narrow scope that doesn't need to exist anymore. N-AA used to be pretty good in some Last Turn builds as a deterrent against them summoning a monster. This wasn't that great as compared with Jowgen the Spiritualist, however. Jowgen allowed you to activate Last Turn without fear of them bringing another monster out on the turn after your first. This is slightly slower and has a slightly less useful range of ability.

A card with similar scope currently seeing a bit of tournament play is Forced Back. It's a similar concept that doesn't require a discard and can be activated in response to something, forcing them to commit to setting more Spells or Traps.

Doesn't say much for this card. If you want this kind of effect, Solemn Judgment, Forced Back, and Compulsory Evacuation Device all offer a similar effect for either a lower cost or a higher cost, but with added versatility.

There are just better options.

1/5 all.

Dark Paladin
Thursday

Non-Aggression Area is an interesting Trap, but one that isn't that great. It could be an excellent card to finish or win a duel with, but outside of that...it's just a -1.

You give up Non-Aggression Area plus a discard, and your opponent can't summon, set, or Normal Summon a monster for thier next turn. A good effect, but too heavy a cost, in my opinion.

Ratings:

1.75/5 all around

Art: 2/5

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
Ryoga Non-Aggression Area:
Ehm, why?

A card that shows just what delaying the inevitable really means. You get a -2 just to make your opponent wait one turn before getting another monster. I don't think he'll care that much, as there decks don't need one more turn quite that badly. There are much better stalls in existence.

Traditional: 1/5
Advanced: 1/5

Share and enjoy,
Ryoga
