COTD Review Standards - by Baneful
June 2014

This is going to be a relatively short point but to understand some of my scorings and reviews, you probably need to understand my personal standards for cards at first.  Some of the people in the crew judge a card by it's viability in the current meta.  To an extent, I do.  That's one of the several factors I take into consideration.

But the main factor is: is the card worth owning?  I do what I do on Pojo to help new players collect things.  I rate cards on what I see to be the long-term prospects of it as well.  This could be why I gave Wiretap a 4 when others gave it a 3.5.  I see trap negation as a timeless concept and this card does it really well.

With Jinzo (by pure irony, he happens to be a trap negator too), I gave him a 3, but I would say the reviews that gave him a 2 and a 2.5 are more accurate at this very moment.  But Jinzo is a card was given a lot of time to prove its worth.

It will be better in some metas than others, but I think due to its simplicity, type/attribute and potential power in trap-negation, he will be a timeless card, even if he might not be in vogue right now.

So, my standards, in a nutshell, include both quality within the current meta as well as the long term.  Those two factors combined.  I do this because YGO is mercurial and people will be reading this website years from now.

With the Dimensional Prison review for example.  Some formats its less used.  Some formats its more used, but it's a timeless card.  We may never get to review it again for another 4 years so I may as well provide an assessment that will at least last more than 2 months.
