Trap Cards Everyone Should Own - Baneful

1. This is not an exhaustive list

2. This list is geared toward newer players who are starting their collection

3. This list focuses on "splashable" traps – not theme based traps

On-summon removal

- Torrential Tribute for clearing swarms of monsters if you don't have a lot on your field.

- Bottomless Trap Hole if you want to banish one monster in particular.

- Solemn Warning is the most reliable on-summon removal card but has a pricy payment cost.

- Compulsory Evacuation Device is very versatile but is mainly used to stop XYZ's/Synchros'.

- Black Horn of Heaven lacks the versatility of the above cards, but has a better payoff.

- Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare and Void Trap Hole are other options.

Torrential, Bottomless and Warning are the most important three and should be in most decks.  The others are optional, but still helpful.

Attack Negation

- Mirror Force if you want to destroy a swarm of monster

- Dimensional Prison if there is one monster in particular that may threaten your deck.

Not quite as fast as on-summon removal but it handles threats that are already there.  Optional, but strongly recommended.

Trap Negation

- Trap Stun is good for aggressive trap-light decks that want to go in for the kill.

- Royal Decree is the best anti-trap card but ONLY for decks with a really low trap count.

- Wiretap is more reliable and harder to counter, but only negates 1 trap

- Seven Tools of the Bandit is like Wiretap but more effective though it also requires a payment.

For agressive decks, but otherwise, mostly for the side deck.

Effect Negation

- Fiendish Chain negates attacks, negates an effect and is long-lasting.  Reusable if returned to hand.

- Breakthrough Skill is much faster and works twice but is temporary and doesn't negate effects.

In a game based on effect monsters, these cards are important to own.

Other ideas

- Reckless Greed , use 3 of these if you want to bait MST's and speed up your deck

- Safe Zone is a card that's very good if you figure out viable combos for it

- Macro Cosmos is a must-have if your deck doesn't depend on the graveyard (though most decks do).
- Skill Drain is a great card, for a deck that uses monster effects in graveyard rather than on-field.
