I'm So Thirsty! - Knight of Ni

Hello fellow Yu-Gi-Oh! fans!  This is my first post on this site and I’m very excited.  This should be the first of a stream of posts by me.  I’ve always loved to design decks.  Anyways, enough about me and more about my deck design.

Drain decks don’t really see much play because they are usually inconsistent and lack speed.  Well this drain deck focuses on melting your opponent’s deck while still having a strong backbone to support it.  What’s really amazing about this deck is the fact that the drain is natural.  You don’t have to go out of your way to accomplish massive feats of drain.  The key, however, is to get out your Soul – Absorbing Bone Tower as quickly as possible.

I’ve even included some draw and speed support stuff in here to keep things running smoothly.

                        I'm So Thirsty

                        Total x40

                        Monsters x20

                        Vampire Lord x2

                        Ryu Kokki

                        Il Blud x2

                        Soul- Absorbing Tower x3

                        Needle Worm x3

                        Pyramid Turtle x3

                        Sangan

                        Zombie Master

                        Morphing Jar

                        Mezuki x2

                        Spirit Reaper

                        Spells x13

                        Swords of Revealing Light

                        Book of Life x3

                        Call of the Mummy

                        The Shallow Grave

                        Gravekeeper's Servant

                        Lightning Vortex

                        Heavy Storm

                        Card Destruction

                        Allure of Darkness

My Body as a Shield x2

                        Traps x7

                        Threatening Roar x2

                        Bottomless Trap Hole x2

                        Compulsory Evacuation Device x2

                        Call of the Haunted

The Monsters:

The big guns in this deck are the Vampire Lords and Il Bluds.  The Lords have regenerative effects (fueling drain from the Bone Towers) and they drain your opponent’s deck when they inflict Battle Damage.  The Bluds keeps your field full so that you can either stall or rain damage to you opponent.

One of the most important monsters in this deck is Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower.  Each time you Special Summon a Zombie, it forces your opponent to lose the top 2 cards of their deck.  It may not seem like much, but with all of the Special Summoning in this deck, you’ll be getting your Tower’s effect very often, causing a continuous drain.  Also, if you get both on the field, your opponent can not destroy them in battle, forcing them to use a valuable spell or trap to get rid of them.  Something they could’ve saved to get rid of your Bluds or Ryu Kokki.

Your Pyramid Turtles are obvious choices.  So are Needle Worms.  Sangan keeps your hand full, plus you have very many targets to choose from.  Spirit Reaper does what he does best.  Mezuki can Special Summon monsters in a pinch.

Morphing Jar is an iffy choice.  But I decided to put it in anyways.  Usually I prefer to keep some good cards in hand in case stuff goes wrong, so a flipped Morphing Jar could ruin your plans.  Just make sure you’re playing smart.  You could probably replace it with a Des Lacooda or something like that.

            The Spells:

The spells serve 3 main purposes here; destruction, drain, or support.  LV and Heavy Storm are good destruction engines.  Gravekeeper’s Servant is another continuous drain card in this deck. Being continuous, it is vulnerable to destruction.  Although it’s not very important, meaning your opponent can either waste a resource to get rid of it or just leave it.  If they choose to leave it, they’ll soon see just how low their options become.  Call of the Mummy, Shallow Grave, Book of Life, and Allure of Darkness are great support cards.  CotM is an iffy choice, considering you’ll almost always have at least 1 monster on the field.  AoD is left at 1 because there are only 10 DARK monsters in this deck, meaning only ¼ of your deck is valid for this massive draw engine.

The main monster you want to resummon with The Shallow Grave would be Needle Worm.  If you end up reusing its effect at least once in the game and you still use the other 2 as well, that adds up to 20 cards lost.  That’s ½ of your opponent’s deck.  That power is amazing!

My Body as a Shield is the only negation card in this deck for dangerous effect (unless you count Vampire Lord’s regenerative abilities).  Therefore they are important protection.

            The Traps:

The trap line up is pretty standard.   This deck can usually survive hits from Spells or Traps, but not battle.

I use a slightly modified version of this deck and I must say that it works wonderfully.  I’ve never used it at a tournament, though, but I don’t think it would do terrible.  Anyways, if you like the idea, try it out
