Trading Card Game Tips from fans

September 2008

Hand Advantage - Lemonsatan

I posted this about 9 months ago, I don't think it ever made it... but who cares? This is a guide about hand advantage - what to do and what not to do. (Saving your resources).

Tip 1: Cards that say "Discard 1 card". E.g. Lightning Vortex, Tribute to the Doomed. This cards are mainly used in Dark World decks because you're allowed to special summon a Semi-decent monster. Most people reckon that cards such as Lightning Vortex are really strong. I'm here to tell you about card costs.

Lightning Vortex, as we're all aware is Activate, discard one card, destroy all your opponents face ups.

THE HIDDEN TRUTH:

You use lightning - (Minus 1 card)

Discard 1 card - (Minus 1 card)

Destroy X face ups.

It's only worth it if you destroy at least 2 monsters with this card's effect because you're consuming 2 cards of your own. If you destroy 3, good on you. However, if you're only trying to destroy one monster, it's a real waste. 2 cards for 1, not so good. Some people might debate that since it's a magic card, it's on your turn, you get to direct attack or something because you just wiped out the enemy offence. I personally do not use Lightning Vortex. It's somewhat irritating when your opponent is only attacking with one monster. It's also very rare that your opponent will have more than 2 face ups before you use LV (That's for the more experienced players anyway).

Other than that, Tribute the the Doomed, Raigeki Break... useless.

Even if you're chaining it against a Mobius activating its effect.

Still useless, can't emphsize it enough!

Tip 2: Destiny Draws, Trade In

Not much to say about these 2 for 2's. Since the banning of DiskCommander, there's pretty much no use for D-Draw unless you're dumping D-Dasher. Just remember, These cards are 2 for 2.

D-Draw+D-hero=2 cards. People only think it's beneficial because

you're burning your deck (Better chance of drawing cards you need) and because Dasher hit the graveyard and you can Monster Reborn it for example).

Tip 3: Hand Advantage Cards - Mirror Force. Mirror Force. One card, can destroy multiple. The thing I love about MF is that it doesn't have a cost, unlike Lightning Vortex. Other cards that include hand advantage are (The infamous Pot of Greed, 1 for 2, Graceful Charity - Which is a 3 for 3 actually, but it was too evil combined with Dark

World) ETC. If you want a good deal out of MF. Make sure you use it to destroy 2+ monsters. If it's a 1 for 1, better off using a Sak Armour.

More on Hand Advantage Cards: Light and Darkness Dragon

- Tribute 2, Summon From Hand (3 cards off you)

- Negate up to 4 Magic and Traps (Difficult because it might die at 1800)

- Destroy your whole field (Max Casualty:10 - including L&DD)

- Special Summon 1 - (Your Field +1)

Pros:

Negating Magic and Traps: 4 max (Really weakens your opponent) Sp Summon - DiskCommander (Before September... you could DRAW 2!!!)

Cons:

Destroy your whole field

Can't counter Force Back

2 Tribute

Loss of Attack (Not really a loss)

I used this card before, found that it was really evil with the Negate and Destroy magic and traps. Made sure that he was going solo, so I wouldn't have much to lose when he was destroyed. Before September, I used it to Sp.Summon DiskCommander and Draw 2. Maybe it got banned due to the high amounts of Sp.Summon from Graveyard. Now, I don't think it's as useful as before, so I took it out of my deck :(

Sorry about all that rambling...

Tip 5: Getting Desperate Here...

Bottomless Trap Hole - ETC. 1for1 - Pretty Decent. Also stops their summoning for the turn. I like these cards :] Sak Armour will do nicely too. Most people reckon that Sak Armours are crap, but really, it's underrated :[ Trap Hole alike. But with all the Sp.Summon these days, it's hard to use trap hole :(

Tip 6: Increasing Draw. Card of Safe Return+Anything that will come back, forever and ever.

I think I've lost my touch towards the end. I've managed to briefly cover everything you need to know. Most importantly, Make sure your cards are used 1 for 1, 1 for 2... just anyway to benefit your cards.

Card advantage is just when you have more cards than your opponent because you used 1 card and it wiped out 2 of theirs. E.g. Torrential Tribute, why do you think these cards are limited???

There you have it :P I'm happy to answer ANY questions and give you feedback, opinion on anything related to Yu-gi-oh TCG =]

Remember - There's no such thing as a stupid question. Only stupid people!

Bye for now :] Lemonsatan - lemonsatan@gmail.com
