Deck fix #1 Offensive Defensive- a friend

Hey everyone, I know it's been a while since I last posted but I've been a little busy with all the deck lists you've been sending in, Thanks! I will be posting quite a few deck fixes for the next few days, so keep looking. Here's an e-mail from a guy named CJ, who was looking to improve on his deck idea of winning with defense.

Hi, I'm CJ. This deck is either an Control-Aggro deck for Advanced Format depending on the situation. It is my favorite deck as it takes out most of the competition it faces (first regionals, then hopefully nationals). The main jist of this deck is to defend itself with high-defense monsters while waiting for the right opportunity to use burn effects or attacking to win the duel. Dark Snake Syndrome, Bad Reaction to Simochi, and Prime Material Dragon work together to drain vast amount of LP for cards such as Fairy Box (so the opponent loses lots of LP because of the high defenses) and Recycle to reuse any Spells or Traps played. Prime Material Dragon's second purpose is to protect any of the high DEF monsters from destroying effects. Hamon serves as the ultimate beatstick in this deck and serves to protect B.E.S. Tetran, Castle Gate, and Prime Material Dragon from attacks. Ultimate Tyranno is summoned to throw the opponent off course and wipe out their monsters. For temporary annoyance, bounce cards such as Kelbek, Legendary Jujitsu Master,  and Gravekeeper's Guard keep the foe occupied. Cloudian Squall exists in this deck to give Balloon Lizard and the B.E.S. cards (the original version of my deck had no way to deal with S/T's...) more counters for their effects. Gambler of Legend can be used to Raigeki the opponent's field or pop a Balloon Lizard for massive LP if Prime Material Dragon is on the field. 4-Starred Ladybug of Doom gets rid of any 4-Star monsters that might pose trouble. If no attacking options are available, then Castle Gate can catapult weaker monsters to inflict damage to the opponent.

Well CJ, this is one of the most interesting decks I’ve ever seen. It reminds me of my first deck that I was using, it lacked focus, and power cards such as mirror force, but it still did pretty well. I think with this kind of deck, we are going to stick with the burn theme, but use different kinds of burn. First, I’ll take out the cards you don’t need

1 Thousand Needles
1 4-Starred Ladybug of Doom
2 Gravekeeper’s Guard

1 Gambler of Legend
1 Steamroid
1 Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder
2 Kelbek
2 Guardian Statue
2 Nanobreaker
1 Steamroid
2 Balloon Lizard
1 Destiny Hero – Defender
1 Ultimate Tyranno
1 Roc from the Valley of Haze
1 Hyper Hammerhead
1 Roulette Barrel
1 B.E.S. Tetran
-----------------------
2 Cloudian Squall
1 Monster Reincarnation
1 Insect Barrier
1 Recycle
2 Yellow Luster Shield
1 Chorus of Sanctuary
1 Ground Collapse

1 soul exchange

1 Gravekeeper’s servant

------------------------
1 Windstorm of Etaqua
1 DNA Surgery
1 Fairy Box
1 Bad Reaction to Simochi
1 Level Conversion Lab

1 Draining Shield

1 threatening roar

Total cut: 36 cards

Wow, that was a big cut. I cut most of these cards because they don’t compliment your overall theme. I’m switching your deck to burn, which is cheap and you already have some of the cards.

Now, I’ll add some cards which are cheap and will help your overall deck. You probably already have some/most/all of these cards

3 des koala

1 sangan (found in virtually every starter/structure deck)

1 mystical space typhoon (I guarantee you’ll find one if you open up 2 Zane packs)

2 des lacooda (easily found in the gold series)

2 stealth bird (same as des lacooda)

2 nightmare’s Steelcage (spellcaster’s structure deck)

1 swords of revealing light (same as below)

1 level limit area-b (fire structure)

1 messenger of peace

2 bottomless traphole (should be saved for snipe hunter/ return from the different dimension/ dimension fusion)

1 ojama trio

1 scapegoat

1 smashing ground

1 snipe hunter

1 gravity bind

2 wave-motion cannon (launch at 3 turns max)

3 solemn Judgement

1 spirit reaper (stall)

1 marshmallon (stall/burn)

Added 26 cards

Des koala: This effectively replaces your Kelbek, thousand needles and all those other 1800 def monsters and does burn, which is excellent. Combine with continuous destruction punch for major destruction.

Des lacooda: you need a good way to draw cards in this deck and with all this stall, you should be able to pull off this flip quite a few times.

Stealth bird: same as above only does burn instead of draw

Snipe hunter: incase the opponent pulls of a jinzo or something you need to get rid of quickly

Smashing ground: save for emergencies; never use it just to make a push

Solemn Judgement: all around protection; be careful when combining this with dark snake

Syndrome

Book of moon: reuse those flip effects, great for defense and when combined with monster reborn/premature burial

Your final deck looks like this: 40 cards

Monsters: 17

3 des koala

1 sangan (found in virtually every starter/structure deck)

2 des lacooda

2 stealth bird

1 Legendary Jujitsu Master

1 Prime Material Dragon

1 Castle Gate

1 The Unhappy Maiden

1 snipe hunter

1 marshmallon

1 spirit reaper

2 mystic tomato

Spells: 15

2 nightmare’s Steelcage

1 swords of revealing light

1 level limit area-b

1 messenger of peace

1 mystical space typhoon

1 scapegoat

1 smashing ground

2 wave-motion cannon
1 Dark Snake Syndrome
1 Creature Swap
1 Brain Control
2 book of moon

Traps: 8

3 solemn Judgement

2 bottomless traphole

1 ojama trio

1 gravity bind

1 Torrential Tribute
