Toons for Noobs!

Today, I’m going to show you a new type of deck: the Toons. Toon builds are one of the oldest, but rarest, deck types to be played in the game of Yu-Gi-Oh. In fact, the only deck theme to be older than Toons is Dark Necrofear.  But that’s history for later.  There are a few toons out there, ranging from Toon Blue-Eyes and Toon Summoned Skull from the Pegasus Starter deck to Toon support like Toon Table of Contents and Toon Goblin Attack Force from DB2.

+                    Understanding the Build

Toons are fun to play, yet freakishly hard to build.  Their strategy is technical beatstick, and there are parts of them that need promoting and defending.

Ø        Special Offer! Tons of Super heavy Snipers right at your fingertips…

Toons have many redeeming qualities about them that make them oh-so-powerful.  One big factor of Toons is that all Toons can snipe (attack someone’s LP, or Life Points, without having to battle someone’s monster if any exist on his field).  With this, your opp.’s LP can drop like a rock if done right.  Another trick the Toons have is that the old toons (any Toons you pick up in Dark Beginnings 1 or the Pegasus Starter Deck are old Toons; the rest are new Toons) are Special Summonable from the hand.  All you need is “Toon World” (their main card, but all too relied on.  Explained later) and the proper Tributes as if it was a Tribute Summon.  Final gimmick these powerhouses have is “Toon Table of Contents”.  This Spell can fetch any Toon card from your Deck and add it to the hand.  That means on top of fetching a Toon Gemini Elf to your hand with it, you could use another and get the “Toon World” you need to help.

Ø       …all for almost all of your Life Points!!!

There is a price for all that power, however.  A lot of it.  There are costs for everything for Toons: pay 1000 to play “Toon World”, pay to attack (old Toons only), etc.  You are going to pay plenty.  Also, “Toon World” must stay on the field in order to keep your monsters alive on the field, and most of your monsters must have “Toon World” on the field to be Summoned (well, the old ones, anyway.).  Waaah.  Finally, when a Toon Monster is Summoned, it cannot attack in that same turn. Sigh…

+                    Covering the Holes

Ok, so once we found the holes, it’s time to patch them up.

                               I.     Life Points

Simple answer.  Increase the LP to balance it out.  One fun way to do it is Selbek’s Blessing.  If all of the Toons can snipe, than a hit with Toon Blue-Eyes with the Blessing can give you 2500 extra LP to spend. Oh, and defend from attacks too.

Other useful cards: Draining Shield, Goblin Theif, Sakarestu Armor.

                            II.     Toon World

Toon World can kill your monsters if it is destroyed.  WATCH OUT!!   Use cards like Magic Reflector to prolong its field presence.

Other useful cards: Magic Drain, Divine Wrath, Giant Turnade, Emergency Provisions.

                         III.     Skipping an attack

If you have to skip an attack… well, make your opponent skip too.  Big Tusked Mammoth not only prevents your opponent’s monsters from attacking on Summon, but he can attack himself, since he is a monster.

Other useful cards: Vengeful Bog Spirit, Stumbling

+                    Tricks of the Trade

Ø            Are you wondering why Giant Turnade and Emergency Provisions are listed as useful cards?  These two cards are ultimate cheat codes for Toons!  If you read the effect of a Toon monster, it says that “If Toon World on the field is destroyed, destroy this monster,” right?  But the effects of Giant Turnade and Emergency Provisions do not destroy Spells or Traps; it sends them to the Graveyard.  A handy tip!  Now, if an old Toon monster, like Toon Blue-Eyes, is on the field, you can use it to take Toon World off and Blue-Eyes will still remain! Frick’n awesome!!!

Ø            Toon Mermaid is easy to find in packs, and his ATK sucks, but with Toon World on the field, he turns into tribute fodder.  She can be Special Summoned herself, without cost!  Bring three if you are running high-level Toons.

Ø            The later Toons (such as Toon Gemini Elf and Toon Cannon Soldier, to name a few) cannot be Special Summoned and cannot snipe if Toon World is not on the field, but carry secondary effects.  Toon Cannon Soldier, for instance, works like a Toon with all of the drawbacks and advantages, but also works like his real-life counterpart by “launching” a monster to inflict 500 LP.
