Deck Fix: Gravekeeper's - Ed

Gravekeeper decks have for a long time been hard to keep consistent throughout multiple formats, unlike Monarchs and Destiny Heroes have. Gravekeeper decks just aren’t consistent enough for that kind of thing to happen. So, with that being said, I’d like to fix a Gravekeeper Deck that has been sent to me that most likely won’t stay consistent through multiple formats.

Here’s the email that was sent to me:

i was thinking about making a gravekeeper’s deck, because the DDT and monarchs decks are at a disadvantage and i’m bored with playing my gadget deck..... i didn’t buy/trade the cards yet but i put the deck into a game and this is what i got ( i can get any card in the game if i wanted to :P)

I hope you can rate/fix because i want a pretty good gravekeeper deck and tell me if this format will actually win duels?
thank you very much.. (again this is just an idea man)

Monsters
GK Spy 3x (how much are these if you buy them cheap? in money value)?
GK Chief (how many)? 1, i actually really want to run one despise what other people say b/c it gives field control in the time of need
GK assailant 3x
GK spear soldier 3x
GK commandant(the thing that gets you necrovally if you discard 2x)
DD warrior lady
DD assilant ( or something else)?
Breaker the Magical Warrior
MOF
Jinzo?
Mobius?
(other cards you’d recommend?)

Spells
Nobleman of Crossout 2x
Smashing
Fissure
Brain Control
Pot of Avarice
Necrovally 3x
Terraforming 2-3? (how many)
Excarvatio of Mage Stones
MST
Heavy Storm
MAYBE SHRINK?

Traps
Mirror force
Bottomless trap hole
Solemn judgement
Judgement of anubis (protect necrovalley)
MAYBE curse of royal (protect necrovalley)
Maybe FIELD BARRIER? i think this card is good at protecting
Spell shield type 8 ?
Rite of Spirit 3x

(my deck format may suck but please do not make fun of me b/c i’m new to gravekeepers.. )

PLEASE fix thank you very much
recommend cards that i should have,
good luck in whatever you’re doing..

thanks you very much
jesse

Okay, first of all I would like to point out that Jesse clearly has given lots of thought with his deck. He’s given me lots of ideas to extend on, but he has failed on doing one thing: organizing his deck list. I have the urge to recreate a deck list once again.

Jesse’s Gravekeepers Deck – 40 Cards

3 Gravekeeper’s Spy

1 Gravekeeper’s Chief

3 Gravekeeper’s Assailant

3 Gravekeeper’s Spear Soldier

2 Gravekeeper’s Commandant

1 D.D. Warrior Lady

1 D.D. Assailant

1 Breaker the Magical Warrior

1 Magician of Faith

1 Jinzo

1 Mobius the Frost Monarch

2 Nobleman of Crossout

1 Smashing Ground

1 Fissure

1 Brain Control

1 Pot of Avarice

3 Necrovalley

2 Terraforming

1 Magical Stone Excavation

1 Mystical Space Typhoon

1 Heavy Storm

1 Mirror Force

1 Bottomless Trap Hole

1 Solemn Judgement

1 Judgement of Anubis

1 Spell Shield-Type 8

3 Rite of Spirit

Now, Jesse has created a typical Gravekeeper’s deck and asked me with specific card names what he has considered in the process of his deck building. Jesse, in money value, Gravekeeper’s Spy’s are 3 dollars at least.

Following the traditional format that I fix decks in, I’ll be removing cards that don’t make sense first. Brain Control is definitely one of those cards. I know that there are three tribute monsters, but with all the swarm we have in the deck, we can be sure to have a monster on the field to tribute when we draw one of the three monsters. Brain Control will be removed for extra room. Magical Stone Excavation also isn’t a card that is needed in this deck. It’s true that Necrovalley may get destroyed, but discarding two cards for a cost in a Gravekeeper’s deck is extremely costly, and may result in you losing two monsters that you really needed. So, I’ll also be removing that expensive card.

Personally, I think that Judgment of Anubis is a great idea for inclusion in this deck, but it really doesn’t protect you from all threats. This card has gotten a lot weaker with the Semi-Limitation of Jinzo and with all those monster removal decks. Keeping Necrovalley on the field in this format isn’t the problem; keeping monsters on the field is. So, I’ll be removing Judgement of Anubis for extra room. In a Gravekeeper’s Deck, we need cards that will be able to be activated during the majority of the duel. Spell Shield-Type 8 protects our monsters from opposing threats and such, but if you draw this card in a tense situation, it’s practically dead. So I’ll also be removing that card.

Next, I’ll be moving on to the necessary changes that need to be made in order for the deck to be more consistent, starting with the monsters. I’ll be changing the number of Spear Soldiers and Assailants to 2, creating extra room for necessary support, while lessening the possibility that when a Necrovalley is destroyed that not every monster in my hand would be a Gravekeeper monster. This adjustment leaves us 14 monsters left in the deck.

In the spells section, everything that I haven’t edited is great, and I’ll be leaving this section alone until I get to the additions.

For the traps section, I’ll be removing both Bottomless Trap Hole and Solemn Judgment, for the main purpose of getting extra room, moving us onto the additions in the monster lineup.

I’ll be including a Sangan, first of all, because of its excellent consistency. It allows us to search out almost every Gravekeeper’s card we’ve included in the deck. I’ll also be adding Raiza the Storm Monarch. I know this deck isn’t a Monarch deck, but with this monarch, it’s able to lock up the opponent while still constantly attacking with other Gravekeepers. Now, with the new format, Legendary Jujitsu Master hasn’t been noticed, but in this deck, when it’s stuck or something, Legendary Jujitsu Master would help incredibly. It also confuses the opponent whether or not we’re playing a random hybrid or not.

We now have 19 monsters in the deck.

Now, Jesse has done an excellent job in his spells section in including the necessary staples and removal cards. He has considered what might happen with Gravekeepers, and included these cards. One thing he missed, though, was face-down monsters. I want to add two Shield Crush’s. Premium Packs are released incredibly soon, so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem obtaining those.

We now have 15 spells in the deck.

As for the Traps lineup, I would like to add two Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, for even more locking up on the opponent. Rite of the Spirit provides for most of our needs if we discard a monster, but Call of the Haunted is needed to help as well. To top it off, I’ll be including Torrential Tribute. That makes 43, and I’ll be finishing up here.

Here are the modifications made to Jesse’s Gravekeeper’s Deck:

ˇ        1 Gravekeeper’s Assailant

ˇ        1 Gravekeeper’s Spear Soldier

ˇ        1 Magical Stone Excavation

ˇ        1 Judgment of Anubis

ˇ        1 Spell Shield-Type 8

ˇ        1 Bottomless Trap Hole

ˇ        1 Solemn Judgement

ˇ        1 Brain Control

ˇ        1 Sangan

ˇ        2 Raiza the Storm Monarch

ˇ        2 Legendary Jujitsu Master

ˇ        2 Shield Crush

ˇ        2 Phoenix Wing Wind Blast

ˇ        1 Torrential Tribute

ˇ        1 Call of the Haunted

Cody’s New Gravekeeper’s Deck – 43 Cards

1 Sangan

2 Raiza the Storm Monarch

2 Legendary Jujitsu Master

3 Gravekeeper’s Spy

1 Gravekeeper’s Chief

2 Gravekeeper’s Assailant

2 Gravekeeper’s Spear Soldier

2 Gravekeeper’s Commandant

1 D.D. Warrior Lady

1 D.D. Assailant

1 Magician of Faith

1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
