Correction and Aliens - Cameron

Hey everyone, I sent an article about the new Venom Theme coming out in Tactical Evolution but there was an error in my decklist. I accidentally listed Descent of the Snake God as a Magic Card instead of the Trap Card that it is. Just switch it over and the ratio becomes 18/9/13. Anyway, I didn't just send this in to talk about that, that'd be more of a waste of your time than my articles usually are. I also want to let you all know how challenging the Alien Theme can be. It's not the best theme out there, nor is it competetive in any way. However I have an Alien Deck in my personal gauntlet which definitely wakes you up if you're bored from winning so easily with Monarchs. They get a new monster in Tactical Evolution too, a 1900 ATK Level 4 Normal Monster. Here's a good decklist to begin with if you've no idea how to make an Alien Deck (a pure one anyway):

40 Cards

Monsters: 20
Alien Grey x3
Alien Hunter x3
Alien Mars
Alien Mother x3
Alien Psychic
Alien Skull x3
Alien Warrior x3
Cosmic Horror Gangi'el x2
Flying Saucer Muusik'i

Magic Cards: 11
"A" Cell Breading Device x2
"A" Cell Scatter Burst x3
Corruption Cell "A" x3
Otherworld - The "A" Zone x3

Trap Cards: 9
Brainwashing Beam x3
Crop Circles x3
Orbital Bombardment
Mass Hypnosis x2

Once Alien Soldier comes out, just take out 1 each of Alien Mother, Alien Skull and "A" Cell Scatter Burst for them. Alien Infiltrator is the only monster that's left out, it's just too small and does such a bad job at reliably attacking directly to include in even the most dedicated of Alien Decks.

The deck gets easier to play once you get out an Otherworld - The "A" Zone and an "A" Cell Breading Device out. Just keep those Level 4 Aliens coming. When I first tested this theme, I tried to set up the combo of Gangi'el and Alien Mother up all the time. I realized after testing and getting more support from the sets as they came out that this is a secondary thing to the aliens. The primary goal of the Alien Deck is to weaken opposing monsters in battle and push through damage with Alien Warrior, Alien Hunter and Alien Skull. Alien Soldier will help with this once it's out.

The problem with this theme is that some card effects just need to be on different frames. Brainwashing Beam should be a Continuous Magic Card, if not then Corruption Cell "A" should be a Quickplay Magic Card so you could set it with Brainwashing Beam to stop an opposing attack. Flying Saucer Muusik'i should not be a tribute monster, or they should get some Special Summon-enabling support. Seriousely, the monster stealing alone just doesn't cut it! They need a revival card or some sort of cosmic technology that enables a huge swarm because most of their support requires the tribute of a monster. You need Aliens to smash face yet "A" Cell Scatter Burst and Orbital Bombardment need a tribute and Muusik'i/Alien Mother/Gangi'el are all tribute monsters.

Problems aside, the deck does have a few combos:
- Alien Skull/Corruption Cell "A" with Alien Hunter.
- Alien Mother with Cosmic Horror Gangi'el.
- "A" Cell Scatter Burst with Mass Hypnosis.
- Brainwashing Beam/Mass Hypnosis with Crop Circles.

This theme is a challenge to play, and while playing the deck you have the kind of leverage a little kid has when picking on someone bigger than him/her. If you lose, oh well you're playing a difficult theme. If you win you just beat someone with an Alien Deck. Either way I'd hate to be the other guy. Try 'em out.

Send your questions, comments, etc. to cjrwaud@cogeco.ca. Please no hate mail, I'm really a nice guy once you get to know me.
