Trading Card Game Tips from fans

 March 2007

Great Cards in the New Format

Most of the time people look at cards that were limited and unlimited due to the banlist when deciding on new cards for the new format. This is a very wise thing to do, but we must also not overlook other cards that have an increased value. This article takes a look at, you guessed it, cards that are really, really good in this new format that people aren't drooling over.

Nimble Momonga
This card is so good it hurts. It is one of the staples of my new Aggressive Monarch build that is on this site somewhere in the tips section. Wait, Nimble is an awesome DEFENSIVE card, so what is it doing in an aggro deck. Well, we look at what an aggro deck is trying to accomplish. Get as many high powered monsters onto the field in as short a time as possible in order to make your opponent's lifepoints go to 0. Nimble certainly makes great tribute fodder, and increases your lifepoints to boot. Sure nobleman is a problem, but so is monster removal for any deck. He also comes in great in a pinch if you are on the defensive, giving you a little bit more hope than the average topdecked card. Did I mention that he also thins your deck by 2 cards?

Premature Burial
Well, I don't need to spout off the greatness of this card, everyone knows it already. It was declining in play before the revolution at the end of the last format due to DDT and Chimeratech. These decks really abused this card, and any other deck can too. Recursion is generally a good thing, and we don't have a whole lot of it left, so abuse it while you can.

Hydrogeddon
Easily the best dinosaur, this guy is great for all occasions. He likes to munch D-Heroes with their low ATK, and gadget monsters, and treeborn frogs, and generally any monster with less than 1600 ATK. HE works in a tribute heavy deck, a deck that needs deck thinning or even a little extra aggression. He also thins your deck like Nimble momonga, but for some reason, and I have talked to many players about this, they like to stick together so that you draw into 2 of them at the worst times. My guess is that if you shuffle well, this little watery dinosaur will be a good friend.

Swords of Revealing LIght
This card is down to 1 for a reason. It allows you to attack but your opponent cannot, pretty much the uber stall card. Since it goes away, your opponent will likely not target it for destruction with their precious Heavy and MST. This card has saved me more duels than i can imagine. The best way to use this card is to protect against a counterattack against a vulnerable monster. An attack position reaper comes to mind as well as a few other vulnerable cards. It is also reusable with Giant Trunade, and that alone has won me at least a dozen games over the course of my career, and it also combos with Premature Burial and SNatch Steal...

Well that is my underappreciated cards list for the moment.

Emails are always appreciated, let me know what you think! Be it flames or praise i want to hear it!
