Trading Card Game Tips from fans

June 2007

Volcanic Troopers by JT Woodman on June 26, 2007

Hi everyone

You may remember me from my tourney reports that I have written which features my Mechanical roid deck, my fun with Cyberdarks deck, and mainly my decks that use Chimeratech Overdragon in it. Well I come to from a long night of testing with a deck I though i could win first place with saturday at the tourney at my locol card shop. Lets take a look at it.

Volcanic Troopers x40
Monster cards x20
1 Volcanic Doomfire
1 Card Trooper
1 Sangan
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
2 Volcanic Slicers
2 Volcanic Rockets
3 Volcanic Shells
3 Volcanic Scattershots
3 Cyber Dragons
3 Volcanic Blasters

Spell cards x14
1 Swords of revealing light
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Premature Burial
1 Pot of Avarice
1 Enemy Controller
1 Scapegoat
1 Card Destruction
3 Blaze Accelerators
3 Tri-Blaze accelerators

Trap cards x6
1 Ring of Destruction
1 Mirror Force
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Magic Cylinder
1 Ceasfire
1 Call of the haunted

Lets face it, I don't run 3 Volcanic Rockets. The reason for this is when i came back from the sneak preview in Framingham, MA I traded the six Rockets I came back with because I knew Volcanic Doomfire was worth too much and it was hard to pull from a pack ultra or ultimate rare. I got two of my Rockets back from my friend Mike but I was still missing a Doomfire until June 23, 2007 when i found an ultimate rare on and traded for it. I was originally suppose to trade an ultimate rare Raiza the storm monarch for an ultra rare one but I was forgettful about that so i ended up trading it for an ultimate rare version. I still wanted ro stick with Cyberdarks but after trading for a Card trooper that was originally mine I decied to try merging Card trooper with Volcanic Doomfire and it works. A good staregy to this deck is when Volcanic Blaster is destroyed by battle is you could add one monster with Volcanic in it's name to the top of your deck, which in this deck would be Volcanic Rocket or Volcanic Doomfire. Only add Volcanic Doomfire to the top of your deck if you have both Blaze Accelerator cards in your hand or if you have one Blaze Accelerator card and a Volcanic Rocket in your hand otherwise put the Volcanic Rocket on top of your deck. You are all probably wondering why Card Trooper is in this deck. The reason for this is because it has the ability to fill up the graveyard for Pot of Avarice so you can have draw power, to get a shell in the graveyard for the effet to bring another Shell to your hand, to thin your deck down to size so you can draw into that last card you need, and if Card Trooper is destroyed you can draw a card. I know it's a bizarre adition to the deck but it works for me. Don't worry about sending Doomfire to the graveyard bacuse 1.) Pot of avarice can return it to the deck, 2). this deck doesn't have to win via Doomfire only, and 3) Card trooper will have 500 more ATK points anyways. I am putting this deck to the test this Saturday at FIT games in Dennisport, MA. The decks this deck is expected to go against are....
  • Perfect Circle
  • Big City
  • Standard Machine build
  • Chimeratech Overdragon OTK
  • Gadgets
  • Exodia using Clock Tower Prison and Infernal Dragon
  • Monarchs
  • Crystal Beasts and more.

Will this deck work? Most Likely. Can it win first? Maybe. But the only way to find out is to use it Saturday so well find out soon enough. You may send all questions, comments, and ideas of how to improve this deck to jtyugioh@hotmail.com. You may also contact me if you would like to trade. I will write the tourney report for the sneak preview with my next report from Saturday if I do good.

Thanks for reading.
