Trading Card Game Tips from fans

December 2007
deck fix: lv 8 powerdeck --pwii

S O  wrote:
Hi, my name's Sam. I play the Yu-Gi-Oh card game only on Nintendo Wi-Fi (cash reasons, you know how it is =/) with the latest World Championship 2008. The thing is that there are some new cards included in it (and some others totally missing) that haven't been released in America yet.

It's not really that important, but one key thing you should know is that the greatest OTK and most cheap deck is the new Dark Fusion monster Evil Hero Dark Gaia. He only needs to be fused (with two different fusion spell cards available no less) with 1 Fiend monster and 1 Rock monster. He gains ATK equal to the combined total ATK from both monsters, when he attacks he can force all opponent's monster cards into face-up ATK position (Flip Effects NOT activated) AND if he was fused with Dark Calling, Trap cards (possibly Spell cards too, can't remember) CAN'T AFFECT HIM THAT TURN.

Naturally, it's such a simple requirement to exploit, they can get a 7K+ monster up in one turn (Valkyrion Warrior + Dark Dreadroot is the most deadly combi). And not just one might come up.

The ban list is also slightly different on Wi-Fi (it should be exactly the same as Advanced, but sometimes people mention Ring of Destruction but it's banned on Wi-Fi).

Anyway, here's my deck. It isn't designed specifically to counter Dark Gaia, but I've trained against the AI Ghost of players with Dark Gaia decks and this has faired well so far.

Nature of Deck: Standard Lvl 8 Monster beatdown but with a Negation twist

Key Combos:

Counter Trap Cards + Dark Ruler Vandalgyon for Negation and Summoning of a 2800 ATK Beatstick with added Effect (depending on card negated)
Additional Speedy Summoning with Reasoning or Monster Gate
Lvl. 8 Monster Dump with Trade-In and for Summoning from Graveyard

Key Cards:

Counter Trap cards and Dark Ruler Vandalgyon, naturally. Counter Traps can't be negated themselves easily because of their speed, and Dark Ruler Vandalgyon is underrated for his ability to be summoned + effects he gains based on the card negated. I think of him as a supersized and slightly less stable Monarch.

The Counter Trap cards are:
- Solemn Judgement (Absolutely essential! A cost that can always be paid, and pure versatility!)
- Dark Bribe (True, it gives + 1 card draw to the opponent, but like Solemn, it's pretty versatile since it can Counter traps as well as Magic cards)
- Divine Wrath (A card that can negate Monster Effects. Can be deadly since it gives Vandy the ability to summon another monster from the graveyard!)
- Forced Back (Unless I know the opp. is playing a Monarch deck, I'd choose this over Pulling the Rug. Handy for forcing back Jinzo, or Monarchs as well, although there's trouble if the monster was Special Summoned).
- Magic Jammer (Just one more Spell protection. Might replace with another Divine Wrath, or possibly either Cursed of the Sealed Spell or Spell Vanishing [handy for ritual and fusion decks])

Reasoning and Monster Gate: Standard utility for speed summoning high level monsters. Problems only when the Opp gets wise to what I'm doing and knows about my Lvl. 8s. Though, with my summon from the graveyard cards, it's not always bad. Monster Gate is in case of that, usually with my Morphing Jar, or Cyber Dragon

Light and Darkness Dragon: Absolute live saver in many cases. Esp. once I've used up my Counter Traps and need to stall for a new hand. I can usually get two monsters out by the time I need him, so it's all good. Also, summon from Graveyard means I can get another Lvl 8 beatstick by the turn he's destroyed.

Beast King Barbaros: Plain handy and versatile. A Lvl. 8 that can be summoned as a decent 1900 ATK monster. Also, great surprise effect when I Triple Tribute it for an all-out destroying effect and 3000 Direct ATK.

I've been thinking of adding in Mask of Darkness, Sangan, and maybe even Destiny Hero Malicious so that I can use Crush Card Virus. I have a variant deck that does this. Also, I didn't add in Snipe Hunter since I found I NEED those Trap/Spell cards to negate to GET Vandalgyon. Also thought of adding in a Hand Collapse for additional draw power. Ancient Gear Gajiltron Dragon is handy tech with his ability to negate Trap/Spell cards from activating when he attacks. It doesn't affect for the whole Battle Phase, but it's good for a clear 3000 shot (provided there are now other monsters on the field.

Anyway, hope you can help, thanks!
