Trading Card Game Tips from fans

From: Neo King of Games
Subject: My Contribution to the "My Thoughts on the Ban List" Articles - Neo King of Games

I noticed something about the ban list yesterday whilst watching Yu-Gi-Oh! GX...this ban list is seriously messed up. And it's because of what's currently banned...in fact, has been banned for quite some time. Before I begin, let me explain this...

I started playing this game a few years back because I watched the show. And what I saw on the show is what I was hoping I could see in real life: amazing come-from-behind victories. But you don't really see that anymore. Why is that?

As far as I can remember (which incidentally isn't that far, but whatever), the following cards have been on the ban list:

Pot of Greed

Monster Reborn

Change of Heart

Fiber Jar

What's so important about these cards as opposed to the others on the list, you ask? Simple. These cards can be identified as "lucksack" cards. If you topdeck one of these, you can drastically change the course of the whole duel. And that's what I like to see.

Don't tell me you don't feel a certain sense of...awe...when you see the characters on the show draw the top card of their deck only to find it's exactly the card they need to turn the duel back in their favor. When you watch the show, you think "Man, they HAVE to win this duel, they just CAN'T lose!" But the point of this is, you know they'll win; it's seeing HOW they win that makes it interesting.

This game has become a game where the only way to win is to think tactically and make all your moves based on how much advantage you get out of it. But the unbanning of the above cards would change that. It would turn it back into what I feel the game was always supposed to be: a game where there's always a way to fight back.

What I don't like about this game is that it's become a game where it's unlikely you'll be able to win if you lose control of the duel. Once your opponent pins you down, it'll take a miracle to break free and fight back. But with the return of these four simple little cards, miraculous plays, the thing that makes duels worth watching, will be more common.

And certainly, with these cards, those who can already easily take control will have even more power. But at least those who CAN'T easily control the duel can make a comeback.

I dunno. I guess I'm just trying to support the underdog here. But I really believe that the only true problem with the ban list is the banning of cards that make this a game of miracles.

You call it lucksacking. I call it a duel worth watching.

Anything you wanna say to me about this can be sent to neokingofgames@sbcglobal.net.

Please keep the flaming to a minimum. I'm sure there are plenty of you out there with your torches and pitchforks at the ready.
