Deck Analysis 2.

Looking at the Lockdown Deck.

By ~ShineSoldier~

Hey, everybody.

Welcome to my second Deck Analysis article. In this issue, I’ll show you a different Lockdown deck that you might be used to. This one focuses on Spatial Collapse:

Spatial Collapse

Trap / Continous

“You can only activate this card when both players have 5 or less cards on their field. As long as this card remains on the field, neither player can have more than 5 cards at the same time on his/her field.”

This card was first shown in Invasion of Chaos, where it didn’t get much attention.

However, this card can really lock your opponent down, together with the right support cards.

The first one is really important in this type of deck: Ojama Trio.

Ojama Trio

Trap / Normal

“Special Summon 3 ''Ojama Tokens'' (Beast-Type/LIGHT/2 Stars/ATK 0/DEF 1000) in Defense Position on your opponent's side of the field. The tokens cannot be used as a Tribute for a Tribute Summon. When an ''Ojama Token'' is destroyed, inflict 300 points of damage to the controller's Life Points”.

This card automatically puts three ‘useless’ cards on your opponent’s field. Now why is this card so gamebreaking in this deck? Because when you run multiple copies, you could activate the first one, destroy one of the Tokens and activate the second one. That’ll give your opponent 5 monsters on the field, and assuming he hasn’t any Spell or Trap Cards, you could lock him down immediately by activating Spatial Collapse. The best part about these tokens is, that they cannot be used for Tribute Summon.

Another card that works very well in this deck is Giant Trunade.

Giant Trunade

Spell / Normal

“Return all Spell and Trap Cards on the field to their respective owner’s hands.”

It will return all Spell and Trap Cards to the owner’s hands, and it can be used in threes.

Now we will need some cards that’ll get rid of the monsters, so that you can use Ojama Trio.. Compulsory Evacuation Device is perfectly suited for this job.

Compulsory Evacuation Device

Trap / Normal

“Return one monster on the field to the owner’s hand.”

This card can also be ran in multiple copies, so it will be in this deck for sure.

So, we’ve got the main parts of the deck and some ways to get rid of cards on the field.

Now we will need cards to get your combo fast. Because both main cards (Spatial Collapse and Ojama Trio) are Traps, let’s add some ‘A Cat of Ill Omens’.

A Cat of Ill Omen

Dark / Beast

Effect

2*

FLIP: Select 1 Trap Card from your Deck and place it on top of your Deck. If "Necrovalley" is active on the field, you can add the selected card to your hand.

ATK 500 / DEF 300

Wow! This card is really amazing in this deck. It gets you the main pieces very easily.

The only downside is that it’ll slow your deck a bit, since the Trap Card will be placed on the top of your deck.

Therefore, we will add some stall cards to protect yourself, while you’re getting all the pieces in your hand. Three cards are really good at stalling:

Gravity Bind

Trap / Continous

“All level 4 or higher monsters on the field cannot attack.”

Level Limit Area – B

Spell / Continous

“All level 4 or higher monsters on the field are changed to defense position and must remain in this position as long as this card remains face-up on the field.”

Messenger of Peace

Spell / Continous

“All monster with an ATK of 1500 or more cannot attack. Pay 100 Life Points during each of your standby phases. If you do not, destroy this card.”

The first two are semi-restricted, but the third one can be used in threes. If you don’t think 7 Stall Cards is enough, add one Wall of Revealing Light.

Now, let’s see what we’ve got until now:

-                     We’ve got the main combo

-                     We’ve got S/T removal

-                     We’ve got monster removal

-                     We’ve got ways to draw our combo

-                     We’ve got protection

So what do we need more?

That’s right. Speed.

Let’s add Morphing Jar and Magical Merchant for this.

Morphing Jar

Earth / Rock

Effect

2*

“FLIP: Both players discard their entire hand to the Graveyard and draw 5 cards from their decks.”

ATK 700 / DEF 600

Magical Merchant

Light / Insect

Effect

2*

“FLIP: Pick up cards from your deck until you pick up a Spell or Trap Card. Add that card to your hand and discard the other cards to your Graveyard.”

ATK 200 / DEF 500

As always, Morphing Jar is a great addition to a deck.

Magical Merchant will work perfectly, since we don’t have many monsters. This means you won’t discard valuable cards very often before you draw a Spell or Trap Card.

Next, we’ll add Penguin Soldier, Mask of Darkness, Tsukuyomi and Night Assailant.

Penguin Soldier

Water / Aqua

Effect

2*

“FLIP: Return up to 2 monsters on the field to the owner’s hand.”

ATK 750 / DEF 500

Mask of Darkness

Dark / Fiend

Effect

2*

“FLIP: Select one Trap Card from your Graveyard and add it to your hand.”

ATK 900 / DEF 400

Tsukuyomi

Dark / Spellcaster

Spirit

4*

“This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to the owner’s hand in the End Phase of the turn this card is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned or flipped face-up. When this card is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned or flipped face-up, select one face-up monster on the field and flip it into face-down defense position.”

ATK 1100 / DEF 1400

Night Assailant

Dark / Fiend

Effect

3*

“FLIP: Destroy one monster on your opponent’s side of the field. When this card is discarded from your hand to the Graveyard, return one flip-effect monster from your Graveyard to your hand.”

ATK 200 / DEF 500

Penguin Soldier gets rid of more monsters, Mask of Darkness could get your lost pieces of the combo back, Tsuku is for heavy Flip-effect control and Night Assailant can return virtually every monster card back to your hand when discarded.

Well, we’ve got almost everything now...Except for one thing.

And ironically, that’s the most important thing in a duel (besides having fun)

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll give you a little hint:

WINNING!

This combo is really cool and all, but how do you win a duel with this deck?

For this, we’ll add two more cards that will take out your opponent in one single blow as soon as they get out while your precious combo is active.

Asura Priest

Light / Fairy

Spirit

4*

“This card cannot be Special Summoned. This card returns to the owner’s hand in the End Phase of the turn this card is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned or flipped face-up. This card can attack all your opponent’s monsters during the same Battle Phase.”

ATK 1700 / DEF 1200

Big Bang Shot

Spell / Equip

“A monster equipped with this card increases it’s ATK by 400 points. When the equipped monster attacks a defense position monster and the ATK of this card is higher than the DEF of the attacked defense postion monster, inflict the difference as battle damage to your opponent’s Life Points. When this card is destroyed or removed from the field, remove the equipped monster from play.”

Now I know that Asura Priest is level 4 and has more than 1500 ATK, so all your own Stall Cards will block it, but since your opponent can’t do a thing while your combo is out, you’ll have more than enough time to just sit and wait to get that Giant Trunade and return the Stall Cards to your hand. Then you will have a clear shot at victory

Now why do these two cards win the game for you?

Calculate it yourself. Asura Priest becomes a 2100-trampler with Big Bang Shot, so when he attacks all your opponent’s Ojama Tokens, he will inflict 2100 x 5 + 1500 damage. And that’s 12000 damage to be precisely.

Now let’s construct the deck itself.

Final explanations:

-                     Book of Moon and Book of Taiyou are there for more Flip Control.

-                     Wave Motion Cannon provides another win possibily. It also functions as S/T removal bait, so that your Stall cards will be safe.

-                     Solemn Judgment was added to prevent your opponent from annoying you in ANY way, since it can negate ANY kind of card.

That’s it for the second article from this serie.
