Subject: Shonen Jump's, Regionals and thoughts by J

i have gone to several regionals and 1 shonen. i have made top 8 in regionals 3 times. my first regional was in nuetral ground when dark world was just released.

my experienced in regionals have been good because of my record but i did terrible in the Philadelphia Shonen Jump TCG Championship, i was like in the bottom hundreds. through out my dueling's there have been moments i just wanted to quit because of all the "top decking" and "god hands" my oppents draw. which leads me to this conclusion yugioh is 35% skills, 30 % luck, 30% deck, and 5% shuffling based on average decks.

5% shuffling because it is hard to win with a hand full of tributes, monster, spells, etc. it is good to have a mix between monsters, magic traps.

30% deck because no matter how good you are you cant win a shonen with vanilla mons like neo or celtic gaurdian sword of deep seated etc. you need cards that gain advantage and cards that work with each other.

35% skills because i have seen good duelist get out of god hands, like graceful, confi, nobles. mof locks etc. they use it against their oppent for example the oppent uses graceful several times bu is dicarding key cards like torrential, mirror force, breaker, etc. so they know they dont have to worry about falling to these cards. they conserve their cards, dont play gfc unless its very neccasery, trying to get 2 for ones or more with the keys cards, using their own scapegoat token against them and so on and just trying to the best they can with the cards they got.

30% luck because this has happened to me too many times to count. i am usually always at a disadvantage because my oppent has had "god hands" and i have had poor hand like to many chaos, but some how i have managed atleast to equal cards to my oppent by using skills and taking a lot of damage to life and just waiting for the right time use the card's at my disposal. i have the oppent sort of on the run because i have used my "skills" to get of several situtations, but than all of a sudden they top deck the only card that could save them like heavy breaker snatch or graceful. if you go to metagame.com and see top 8 matches ull see some of our best top deck, one of the best of the game and my friend jerry wang he is an ultimate duelist with a lot of luck, just recently he topped a gfc to beat shane scurry in one of the duels, just a few that have one by luck, dont get me wrong they are great duelist, just showing their is luck in yugioh, austin and the canadian winner calvin when he top decked a cyber stein while getting a limiter from merchant.

in my shonen jump i lost mainly to little kids, dont get me wrong their are a lot of good duelist that are small just look at austin. but i mean little kids with great cards but dont know too much on the real way the game is played. just to show some examples in the third round this kid plays gfc and dumps a frog. and to begin with i had a bad hand. i tried to use the cards at my disposal the best i could but it didnt work. the kid saced for mobius not destroing any magic and traps playing smashing ground too on my cyber dragon just to inflict damage. it didnt matter what i did the kid just drew the cards he needed one by one.

but anyway try to have fun with the game people and experiment with cards and try to make it to the top being creative, and always keep on practicing.

J
