Subject: Neo-Spacian Dark Panther: The Next Big Tech? - MasterDragon

With Power of the Duelist ready for its release in August, there is one card that could possibly help many a duelist with a tough situation. And it's a card Jaden uses!

As you know, there are very few cards in the arsenal of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX's Jaden Yuki that ever get to see the light of day in today's metagame. However, one of his cards may see play as a tech card! I am referring to the Neo-Spacian Dark Panther. For those who don't know, here's the rundown of this upcoming card:

Neo-Spacian Dark Panther

POTD-EN005

DARK

Level 3

[Beast/Effect]

Once per turn, you can select 1 face-up monster on your opponent's side of the field. While this card is face-up on your side of the field, until the end of this turn this card's name is treated as the selected monster's name, and it gets the selected monster's effect(s).

ATK/1000 DEF/500

You know what this means, right? It means multiple things! This card is practically the Swiss Army knife of Yu-Gi-Oh! Here's a list of things you can do with this card:

- Use it against monsters with Grave-activated effects (ex. "When this card is sent to the Graveyard" or "When this card is destroyed as a result of battle"), then use those effects to your advantage. Seeing as this card only has 1000 ATK, ramming this into something like Sangan or Mystic Tomato is a small price to pay for the big effect you'll get out of it.

- Use it as Fusion-Material. Say your opponent has a Cyber Dragon and so do you. Play Dark Panther to copy your opponent's Cyber Dragon's name. You can then fuse your Cyber Dragon and Dark Panther into Cyber Twin Dragon!

- Great combo: Dark Panther + Grave-activated Monster + Creature Swap/Mystic Box

Use Creature Swap/Mystic Box to give your Grave-activated monster to your opponent. Use Dark Panther's effect to copy your monster's effect. Ram Dark Panther into your monster to destroy your Panther (and perhaps your other monster). You'll now get to trigger the effect of your swapped monster, and (if you haven't already) eventually come back to destroy your swapped monster so you can activate the effect a second time!

So, say you gave Sangan to your opponent, used your Panther's effect, and destroyed both Sangan and your Panther. That means you'd be able to search for TWO monsters with < 1500 ATK instead of just one!

- Great in Traditional Format, too! You can use Dark Panther to copy the effects of your opponent's Black Luster Soldier- Envoy of the Beginning or Chaos Sorcerer to remove those threats from play!

- It slips under Gravity Bind and Level Limit - Area B, so it can be an essential card in low level-themed decks.

- It's searchable by Sangan and Mystic Tomato, as well as a great power-up for Beast decks.

So, there you have it. This card definitely has potential as a tech. And don't be afraid to try this guy out in Traditional tournaments, as he might win you a good share of matches. However, here's some advice for you: try placing Dark Panther in your Side Deck first, then when you know what you're up against, review what monster effects your opponent used against you, and decide whether Dark Panther's copy effect will help you in those future rounds. Until then, happy dueling, and keep an eye out for for the upcoming Power of the Duelist series to decide if Panther could be a powerful addition to your deck.
