Subject: TCG Tip Correction

One of the tips I submitted was incorrectly printed. The article is titled 'What's New Pusstcat?' (which if possible, I'd like to have corrected to 'What's New Pussycat'), and was submitted cut-off at the Trap section. Following is the full article I'd like to submit for a correction, please.

What’s New Pussycat? Building a Cat Deck

Yup, cats! The furry felines have a few appearances in Yugioh, and in fact, there’s so many we can build a deck of them! Here’s the checklist for the pretty kitties.

Monsters (17)

2 Rescue Cat

3 Catnipped Kitty

3 All-Seeing White Tiger

2 Giant Rat

2 Cat’s Ear Tribe

2 Dark Cat with White Tail

1 Behemoth, King of All Animals

1 Maji Gire Panda

2 V-Tiger Jet

Note that we CANNOT use King Tiger Wanghu here. True, he fits the theme, and is one of the few kitty cards (except maybe V-Tiger Jet in a Chazz deck) you can use in a deck. But all our monsters except V-Tiger have less than 1400 points. King Tiger would hurt us more than it would hurt any opponent. Anyway, let’s take a look see.

Rescue Cat is, to me, a good card. Besides looking adorable, it lets you tribute it* to call out 2 more Beasts, provided they’re Level 3 or less. A pity Rescue Cat is a Level 4: otherwise we could Tribute one to call out 2, then Tribute them for 4 Beasts. That’s 4 monsters for the price of 1, and that is practically broken. Yes, our felines die at the end of the turn when summoned by Rescue Cat, but we have a Trap to help that.

Catnipped Kitty can set up an attack lock, which is good, since our felines can’t, for the most part, hold their own in battle. Plus, it lets you make the DEF of an opponent’s monster 0, once per turn. This combos with a Spell we’ll be using. The White Tiger has stunning artwork, and is the best Level 3 kitty we have at 1300/900 points.

Giant Rat is there to give our kitties a snack when we aren’t dueling. Seriously, they can pull out a Rescue Cat to set up for a Behemoth next turn, or call out a Catnipped Kitty to set up an attack lock if we have 1 in our hand.

Cat’s Ear Tribe is a nasty thing: you NEVER want to attack it. It’s 200 ATK, and any monster that attacks it becomes 200 ATK. Any attack against it is a suicide run. Unless of course, you have Spells and Traps to make it into a furry Raigeki…which we do. Dark Cat with White Tail provides simple field control, and lets you bounce a monster summoned by Rescue Cat to keep it from being destroyed.

Behemoth and Maji Gire Panda are pure tech. Behemoth is really a 1-Tribute, since we have a Trap here to reset his effect. Monsters summoned by Rescue Cat die at the end of the turn, and Maji Gire gets an extra 500 points each time a Beast is blasted. As for V-Tiger Jet…he just fits the theme,

Spells (14)

3 The Big March of Animals

2 Shield and Sword

1 Heavy Storm

1 Mystical Space Typhoon

1 Axe of Despair

1 Chthonian Alliance

1 Lightning Vortex

1 United We Stand

2 Messenger of Peace

1 Scapegoat

The Big March is part 2 of our 3-part Kitty-Geki combo with Cat’s Ear Tribe. Shield and Sword swaps ATK and DEF, right? Remember Catnipped Kitty, the little rascal who can make a monster’s DEF 0? That’s 0 ATK, once we plop Shield and Sword. And the Kitty himself has 500 DEF, which becomes 500 ATK too…do I really need to explain what to do from there?

Axe of Despair may sound like dead weight, but we have to power up our kitties, and it’s one of the best Equips in the game for that. Same goes for United We Stand. As for Chthonian Alliance, it’s very similar to United, but only works for monsters of the same name. Which combos well with Scapegoat, since all the monsters there are ‘Goat Tokens’! Messenger of Peace stalls, plain and simple, and gives us time to set up our combos.

Traps

2 Staunch Defender

3 Beast Soul Swap

1 Mirror Force

1 Torrential Tribute

2 Ojama Trio

Staunch Defender is part 3 of our Kitty-Geki combo. How it works is: summon Cat’s Ear Tribe, and set Big March of the Animals and Staunch Defender. On your opponent’s turn, when they try and attack the kitty, activate Staunch Defender and Big March. Your opponent has to attack the now 400 points Cat, and Cat’s effect makes their ATKs 200. Bam! That’s why we’ve teched Ojama Trio, which summons Beasts to power up Maji Gire Panda when they die, and to attack the Cat.

Beast Soul Swap is very useful in this deck. Its lets our kitties avoid Smashing Ground, Sakuretsu Armor….basically, any effect that would affect 1 monsters on our field will be blocked, since BSS returns the monster, and lets us summon another. And it’s perfectly legal to Special Summon the same monster you just bounced. If you attack into Sakuretsu Armor, chain BSS, and return and re-summon the Beast. Sakuretsu ‘misses’ its target, and you get to attack again. Niiiiiice.

BSS also lets us bounce and re-summon Behemoth, resetting his effect if you only Tribute 1 monster for him. Plus, it also lets you bounce and re-summon monsters called out by Rescue Cat so they don’t die. BSS is really versatile in this deck, we have to include 3.
