Message to the Prophets of Doom - Neo King of Games

Wow, it's been a while...bet nobody remembers me. I was the guy who came up with the "Dedicated Decks" thing...that didn't turn out so well. But I've taken some time to get a handle on my skill and intelligence as a Yu-Gi-Oh! player and why the heck am I telling you all this? You don't care! Let me get to the point of all this...

RANT ALERT! RANT ALERT! RANT ALERT!

I recently read Pook's latest article, the one about Machines and "the end of Yu-Gi-Oh!"...and I gotta say, I'm a little disappointed. Disappointed that there are actually players who think like that.

Look, if this game was gonna die, it would've happened by now. LONG ago.

I can't count how many times I've come to this site and found new articles from featured writers talking about how this game is dying. (Actually, I probably could, but for all intents and purposes, let's say I've seen it every time I've come to this site.)

Thing is, they're complaining about how originality is dying and everyone is so focused on winning. That's so far from the truth that I couldn't even express it.

People are complaining about the lack of originality. The fact is, there is no lack of originality...in casual play.

To think, I used to be an advocate for originality. Let's see if I can make this make any sense.

Originality is good. But the fact is, "original" decks can't compete.

Believe me, I'd love to see a BEWD deck top 8 at a major tournament just as much as the next guy, but the fact is, it's just not gonna happen. It's all about how determined you are to win.

I have a feeling it's gonna be hard to put what I wanna say in words.

See...if you wanna win, you gotta play more competitive decks. The ones who win tournaments are the ones determined to win them. The more determined you are to win, the more competitive your game will be.

See, taking a BEWD deck to regionals or an SJC, that's like having "I don't care about this tournament" stamped on your forehead. But taking a more competitive deck, like Chaos Return, that says "I came here to win".

This brings me to my point. People are saying that this game is dying because people aren't using original, fun decks. But that's not true. People ARE playing original decks, it's just that they don't use them in a really competitive environment.

See...the people who win tournaments are the ones that realize that if they want to win, they have to play more competitive decks than their opponents. It's all about how much you want to win...

I still don't feel like I said what I was trying to say, but I can't seem to figure out the words to use to say it. Anyway...please realize this is just the opinion of one lone, unimportant person. I've never won any competitive tournaments. Heck, I've never won ANY tournaments.

But this is how I see it.

Anyway...comments, questions, flames, and the like can all be sent to neokingofgames@sbcglobal.net.
