They Might Know A Lot But They Don't Know All - Keith

This tip is basically for my fellow newbies to the game of yu-gi-oh that may be discouraged because a lot of the veterans at your local store put more money into their deck then you care to start out with and they use their experience to intimidate you. I hope these few tips will give you the help you need to get your heart in the game and become the next champion.

Tip 1) Veterans may know a lot about the game but they do not know everything
By this I mean that if you believe they are wrong in a way they played a card call them on it. Case in point when I first started this guy who has been playing yu-gi-oh since metal raiders tried to MST my change of heart (pre April 1) and told me that since MST is a quick play it would negate the effect of my card. I thought he was right since he had been playing longer than me and I ended up losing that duel. I now know that he was wrong and had I just been a little more confident with what I knew I would have won.
Basically what I am trying to say is don't be afraid to challenge another duelist they are not the authority. You should always ask the tournament judges and check the internet to verify any ruling that is questionable to you.

Tip 2) Don't Get down if you don't have the cash
Vets have been playing for quite some time and through trades, tournament wins, jobs, and parents they got those big ticket cards so don't get down because you don't have a breaker or a BLS-EotB. I have seen harpies deck made out of mostly commons that have been pretty fun to play with and are fairly competitive. Or look for slightly weaker substitutes to those cards that you want like chaos sorcerer for BLS-EotB. Also don't be ashamed to use Structure deck versions of those great spell and traps that everyone wants, you don't need a PSV call of the haunted to bring back one of your monsters

Tip 3) For the most part vets want to befriend you
It has been my experience that the older people at your store want to help you get better and may even give you duplicates of those rare cards that they have that you like. I remember when I first started this guy gave me a few cards that I needed and he didn't use simply because I came out to the tournament. To them new players mean new competition in the future so the better you get the more fun the game is to them so by helping you they are actually helping themselves.

Well I hope these tips help you out there please feel free to email me Keith- u_nv_me_2002@yahoo.com

Keep dueling
