The Fridginators Guide to the Galaxy - fridginators ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "Azza Fridginators" Date: Wed, 20 Apr 2005 20:43:11 +1000 Hiya i am back with another article that has a really corny name. But admit it, fridginators guide to the galaxy, you gotta admit that sounds awesome. Can't wait till the movie comes out on April 28th. It looks fully sick. But anyway, i have decided to make a few points which i feel are important. This is for both newbies and experienced players. 1. Constructing your Deck. To play Yugioh at all you need to have a deck. Der. But obviously not all decks will work, some are more potent than others. Here is a list of competitive decks. Decks with a * next to them are what i consider tier 1 (the best decks, ones you could/would see at nationals). Chaos* Warrior Chaos* Warrior* Zombie* Zombie Chaos* Strike Ninja* Beast* Control* Burn* Fiend* Gravekeeper* Earth* Metamorphosis* Chaos Metamorphosis/Control* Machine* Draw Engine* Fire Beatdown Water Light Wind Fairy Field Control Archfiend Dark Magician Dark Paladin Dragon Red Eyes Black Dragon Blue Eyes White Dragon Exodia Last Turn As you can see there are many playable decks to choose from. Many are Tier 1 but remember that no matter how good your deck is, if you dont play well you will be killed by even a starter deck. Not really but you will be beaten easily. Many of these decks require extreme skill such as Machine or Draw Engine while Chaos or Zombie decks can be run rather easily. Not other chaos variations however, they take quite a bit of skill. Choosing the right deck can be hard but choose one that you like and hopefully turn it into a Tier 1 deck and whoop everyone in the Worlds. *cough*dream*on*cough*, I mean............. cream on. 2. Synergy Synergy is hard to explain. It basically means you have to have cards in your deck that work well with each other. Enemy Controller and Creature Swap are Synergetic with Scapegoat because they both have effects that work well with it. Or Twin Headed Behemoth/Nimble Momonga in a deck with many tribute monsters in it. Synergy is the most important thing in your deck. Cards that arent Synergetic would be like Torrential and Pyramid Turtle/Mystic Tomato. Cards that dont work well with each other and in fact detract from their playability. Also like Creature Swap in a deck with nothing but high attack monsters. You have to really think carefully when putting cards in your deck. Ask yourself "Will they do me much good?" Just because a card is popular doesnt mean you run it unaminously. 3. Staples If you are not running some weird deck that only runs like 1 spell or all monsters or all traps or something weird like that you run these three cards. Pot of Greed Graceful Charity Delinquent Duo Do not question those. Delinquent may seem a bit odd but even Exodia likes killing 2 of their opponents cards. So does burn. You may discard Heavy Storm/Typhoon/Breaker! Those 3 are what i call STAPLES. Pot and Graceful are not arguable. Delinquent is too good. Okay i realise that since there are Reverse Question decks and Heart of the Underdog/Exodia decks so obviously NO card is a staple. However, in decks geared for competitive play, those 3 are staples. Also, as I speak, I am thinking of some rating system like A BAD, I SUC, FORCE and SABC-FU. Have you ever realised how hard they are to make? But anyway, in certain decks there are staples. Obviously if they are *insert card name here* decks then that card is a staple but im talking about modes of decks; Aggresive - Warriors, Gravekeepers Stalling - Burn, Exodia Passive - Control Speed - Deck Out, OTK, Last Turn These are what i think are the 4 modes of decks. In aggresive decks there are several staples such as Breaker (ok i admit i underated him in my article ages ago), Typhoon, Heavy Storm, Snatch Steal and Premature Burial. In stalling decks, such staples would be Gravity Bind, Level Limit and MoP, although you might not run all three, and (maybe) scapegoat. In passive decks, MoP would be the king of those decks as it defends while you can still attack and its optional. Scapegoat is also great in there. Tomatos/Angels are also usually staples there. In speed, the staples are Card destruction, Reload, Morphing Jar, Shallow Grave, Cyber Jar and Book of Taiyu and Book of Moon. Mind you im not saying run all these in these kinds of decks these are just the most notable suggestions. 4. Tech Now Tech is hard to describe also. I guess you could say its an extension of the side deck. It originated in Pokemon when there was no side deck and weaknesses had to be covered in the deck. That was quoted from Zealotpker. But anyway. I suppose a couple of examples of tech are like this: Pyramid Turtle in a deck with 2 reapers and 1 v lords. Or Zombyra the Dark in a Warrior deck to kill those damn V lords or Airknights. Tech is hard to explain. I think i am telling it right but basically its this: Cards that can help certain cards in your deck but they become unstable in large numbers. So you will only run 1 or 2 Turtles in a deck with few zombies. You will only run 1 Zombyra because they are unweildly in 2's and 3's and there arent too many monsters it is employed to kill. 5. Consistency Consistency is stupid. There is no point to it. Why is there any point of avoiding running singles of unrestricted cards? Sure you could count on drawing the card a bit better but dont JUST run cards to be consistent! It makes you easier to counter! I see no point in running 3 Kycoos to be consistent when only 1 would do. Consistency is just stupid. Im not against running multiple copies of cards. Far from it. But there is no point in running multiples when just 1 would do. I myself would only run 1 smashing ground due to deck constraints. Yet that would lower the chances of me drawing it. But arent all cards in your deck supposed to help you? Sheesh so many people would listen to me if painful choice werent banned. 6. Behaviour I have ranted about this before. Seriously dont think you are the God of Yugioh. It just leads to you being a complete loser. But honestly, nothing is more fun than having a really competitive duel with someone who is not temperamental. Seriously, a guy at my local tourney, Alex, he runs a few decks (i forgot what he runs at the moment) but before he was running this deck which is best described as a Chaos Deck without BLS or Chaos Sorcerer. Dont ask :D. But anyway, we were having a really really competitive duel (3rd duel obviously) and it was really close but eventually he won. However, although i lost and losing made me not be able to get 1st 2nd or 3rd, it was really really fun since he was well mannered, funny and a good duelist. Then there are some other people who go mad with power, or at least are not pleasant to talk to. I mean this very day, as i was visiting my tourney shop after going to the movies, i was watching some people duel and i was trying to help one of the guys but he just tells me to piss off. I mean, its a bit mean isnt it? Yugioh is about fun, that wonderful concept that some forget. I am not saying dont be competitive, hell, i dont even see the point in fun decks. But everyone has a right to be treated with respect like everyone else. Dont be about winning, be about playing the game. Be about having fun. Sure we all like to win. Im on a slump so i know about it. But remember that yugioh is a game for fun and not for rudeness or unkindness. So anyway, thats the Fridginators Guide to the Galaxy. I hope it was long enough and you all enjoyed it. PLEASE email me people! God i love getting email! Hate mail, Fan mail, Deck mail, Fe male, they're all good! Its all good. shiny_golden_boy@hotmail.com I NEED A MORPHING JAR! ARGH those things are so bloody hard to get! This guy at my tourney wants to sell one to me for the equivalent of 50 boosters! He said he would be kind and go down to 44 boosters. $400 to $350 (AUS) if you want to know. Go Australia! I hope we win in the World Championships. I mean i would, but since the nationals are in Melbourne and on Sunday after the holidays i cant go. Annoying eh? Remember to send me ALL your thoughts and ideas of what i should do and how im stupid and what cards you reckon are really really good and what are underated and anything. But please make your emails worthy of my reading. Also i LOVE fixing decks :D. P.S. Has anyone seen Waynes World? You know the bit when that officer who looks like the T1000 from Terminator 2 comes up and asks Wayne if he knows this boy ie: John Connor. LMAO is quite literally the term for it. Such a funny movie, along with the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, man that book and radio story is good. azza / fridginators ph33r th3 fr1dg35 Oh and by the way, there is this new yugioh site hosted by the Dungeon Dice Monster guy. http://www.freewebs.com/dbcenteral/yugioh.htm sure it hasnt got much on it yet but you can always read my articles there.
