The burn of burn by Sean ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: seanslcars@comcast.net Date: Wed, 13 Apr 2005 07:49:41 +0000 Hey Sean’s back with a new round of articles. Hope you enjoy them, and don’t forget to check out www.seanzhomepage.freeservers.com and go to the first custom page for my yugioh stuff. Today Sean breaks down the burn deck. One of my AIM buddies killed me with one, so of course I’ve decided analyze it to death and write an article about it. Strengths: Burn decks slow down the pace of the game. Warriors are the worst deck to play against burn, though chaos, zombies, and beatdowns also severely suffer against it. Speed is something burns love to shut down, and do very well. Obviously, direct damage is what they do best. Cards that inflict damage directly are going to form the main backbone of the burn deck, and stall cards will form the other part. There’s an added bonus to burn monsters. Cards like Stealth Bird, Des Koala, and Balloon Lizard all have high DEF values that shut down the majority of the four-star monsters currently in use. Furthermore, Solar Flare Dragon, Bowganian, and cannon soldier all have respectable ATK values, and of course there’s Reflect Bounder that can knock down Tribe, Breaker w/out counter, etc. The burn deck will have it’s opponent pulling out their hair as they are pinned helplessly in place while their life points slowly but steadily dwindle. Weaknesses: Two words. S/T removal. Is "S/T" a word? Whatever moving on. I keep a pair of Giant Trunades in my sidedeck to deal with burns. Add that to three dust tornadoes, mst, breaker, heavy storm, and now the "evil" sacred phoenix of nephthys, which will dismantle a burn deck quicker than that gay millenium thing can appear on your forehead. A good burn deck will have at least two magic jammers (not magic drains-don’t even think about trying magic drains in burn. You need to be able shut down spells when it really counts.) Be mindful of Jinzo, and even Spell Canceller, should your opponent be keeping one to stop burn. And of course Nobleman of Crossout will hurt bad, especially, if your opponent nails your stealth birds with it. NOTE: I recommend against sidedecking Barrel Behind the Door to counter burn. Giant Trunade and Magic Jammer are better choices. Finally, don’t forget the killer of burn. Deck Devastation Virus can destroy a burn deck by taking out nearly every monster you have.
