Side-deck Staples? -- From: Dave Lavier Date: Sat, 9 Apr 2005 16:15:08 -0700 (PDT) Hello, I am Yata-Garasu 1, Yata for short. This is my first YGO tip here on Pojo's and also my weak attempt at becoming a Card of the Day writer. Today I plan to discuss some great cards for side-decks in todays meta. The first thing to ask yourself when making a side-deck is, "What is abundant in my meta?" Well, since I probably don't live near you, I'll simply go by what the most popular "Winning Decks" are, these can also be found in the numerous rants about originalliy in this section. -Chaos; the most disliked and over played deck archtype. It revolves around getting out the feared Black Luster Soldier-Envoy of the Beginning. This deck's worst enemy is Necrovalley, but there isn't much of a reason for every deck to have that, it would be a waste. -Warrior; although often combo-ed with Chaos, it can easily be run by itself, this deck swarms and swarms, and when they get out the heavy hitters, they're almost impossible to stop. -Zombie; with the new restrictions, Zombies have become too popular. They special summon like crazy, Turtles and Books are really easy to obtain, as are Vampire Lords. These can be very dangerous. -Burn; direct damage, ouch. These decks, hurt, but with a good side-deck, these are merely bumps on the road to success. A little Spell and Trap removal hates this deck, but you'll love it. Now, for the Side-Deck itself. -Royal Oppresion; This card hurts all decks listed above, with the exception of Burn. As long as you don't run one of the listed decks, your opponent shouldn't be using it against you too often. -Prohibition; The original Side-deck Star! Your opponent running you over with BLS-EotB? Phoenix? Jinzo? Prohibit it! Great against decks that revolve around getting out a huge monster. -Kinetic Soldier; Warriors are argualy the most abundant deck in use, this thing slaps BLS himslef in the face, wielding a 350 ATK point advantage over him, when in battle with it. -Divine Wrath/Solumn Judgement; Sometimes you may find yourself in dire need for some reliable negation. -Windstorm of Etaqua; If you don't got this main decked, side it! With those crazy Gorillas being as popular as they are, these things kill. Not to mention it will instantly end any attacking (unless they are playing Total Defense Shugun, that is). Just a great card. -Airknight Parshath; Assuming this isn't in your deck, this card is a great back-up, nice stats, Goat-slaughterer, card advantage, and this list goes on. -Theme Support; Put that 3rd Terraforming, D.D. Assailant, X-Head Cannon, X Dragon Head, etc in so, in the occasion that you find yourself needing it against an opponent, just get it out next game and beat them down. Theme is important, but you can't fi every themed card in your main deck, so just slide it into here. Love me? Hate me? -Yata-Garasu 1 (David Lavieri) Contact me at dvlavieri@yahoo.com
