Possessed Dark Soul - Kaan From: Kaine Reto Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2005 21:59:04 -0400 (EDT) *NOTE* The first part of this note is just the history of the card since its debute. If you want to save time, scroll down to the dotted line to get the actual strategy. It really sucks because I sent me tip to the wrong section. Anyways... As you should know this will explain the POTENTIAL of Possessed Dark Soul. This is not saying it is an awesome card, just something to play with. To explain this card's effect simply, you can tribute Possessed Dark Soul to take over every Level 3 or lower monster on your opponent's side of the field. When this card first came out in LOD, it had had minimal use because many decks were Beatdown. But there were still some. It could be used against a Warrior Deck that used double Marauding Captain to lock out attacks. It could be used against Relinquished/Thousand-Eyes Restrict. And there were other useful cards you could have taken over, like Muka Muka, but they just weren't seen much in competitive play. After its debute, Possessed Dark Soul was forgotten about totally. Fast foward to MFC. There were more uses for Possessed Dark Soul. But since everybody neglected this card, it was never used. This had the most use in Beatdown Decks, believe it or not. Many people started to use Gora Turtle + Horn of the Unicorn to counter Beatdown monsters. Throw this card out there and sacrifice it or something. Not only did they loose their defence, they had to draw Horn of the Unicorn again. People also used Spirit Reaper as an impenatrable wall, but again, Posessed Dark Soul took out that defence. Now jump to IOC. By this time, there were dozens of competitve deck types in the game. Gren Maju Da Eisa is the new danger coming into the game. With the majority of new cards in the game coming in now, Gren Maju Da Eisa came to either counter or support decks that relied on total removal. However, I would say now was the worst time to EVER put Possessed Dark Soul in a deck. This would all change with the upcoming Restriction List. Now to the present, where there are more low-level effect monsters coming out. I'm getting lazy right now so here's a short list of cards that Possessed Dark Soul could have been used for. Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower, Goblin King, Ultimate Baseball Kid, Raging Flame Spirit, ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay now for the fun part. The first time I used this card was MFC, I think. It was my first fun deck with minimal strategy. The first strategy I used was one of the most obvious. Possessed Dark Soul + Demotion. For the most part, it was just another Change of Heart with pros and cons. The two good things were that it could take more than one monster if the situation arose and it was permanent. Some bad things were that it took two cards, was easily stopped by MST/Imperial Order, it used up my summon. Bottom line, it rarely showed good use. However, when it did show use, it was VERY good. Doubling up Demotion on Jinzo and control was my favourite. Next, I added Gravity Bind. It was perfect. I made it into a Stall/Burn Deck. I didn't have any good cards, so I was using cards like Poison Mummy which made killing kind of SLOW. But stalling worked very well. Once I got my Gravity Bind out, I just waited for my cards to come to me becaise I was set. Any monster they summoned that could attact under Gravity Bind were just taken over by my Possessed Dark Soul. If they MST or something, I just pulled used my Wabakou and set up another Gravity Bind. If they decided to Jinzo, I usually had enough to take him over. At that point, I would Giant Trunade just incase they were thinking to destroy/revive him. As I said before, I was just too hard to pull off some times, so I stopped using him. Now, there is a new strategy you can use for Possessed Dark Soul. Everyone knows of A Legendary Ocean and its second effect (Reduce all Water monsters by 1 Level). Now if every monster was a Water, it would be easy pickings for Possessed Dark Soul. Just DNA Transplant to water and play A Legendary Ocean. Since they can still only summon Level 4 or lower monsters from their hand, when they reach the field they become Level 3 or lower. So just let them swarm up their Berserk Gorilla, just pull out this combo and they'll be sorry for being too confident. And don't think putting DNA Transplant will be taking up space. Just put stuff like Element Soldier, Insect Soldier of the Sky, or Solar Ray for a back-up plan. Just remember to put Giant Trunade in so you can change element.
