Mirror Force: Not All It’s Cracked Up to Be Hello everyone. I’m Lord Tranorix, and if posted, this will be my third tip on Pojo. Today I’m writing something that I think will be VERY controversial: that Mirror Force, long considered the best Trap there is and one of the best cards out there, is, in fact, not. In the ever-changing game of Duel Monsters, players are (and have been for a while) limiting the number of Traps they use. Why? Because of two things: Jinzo and Magic/Trap removal. So then everyone realized something…there are some Traps that can be chained to Magic/Trap removal! Ring of Destruction, Imperial Order, and Waboku are perhaps two of three most popular Traps there are now. Time Seal is also used sometimes in disruption decks because of its chainability, and Call of the Haunted also has (limited) potential to chain (you can revive a Witch of the Black Forest or Sangan and get their effects again). Magic Cylinder, once considered a deck staple, has begun to drop from more and more people’s decks. Why? It isn’t chainable, and it doesn’t give you field advantage even when it is used. Mirror Force, though also not chainable, WILL give you field advantage. But I ask, who here actually has Mirror Force’s effect go through when playing a skilled duelist? How many people will just attack when they see a face down M/T? It’s a gamble. If they haven’t already removed your Mirror Force, and they see a face down card on your field, chances are (if they’re good) they will not attack you. They’ll wait until they draw Mystical Space Typhoon, Heavy Storm, Harpie’s Feather Duster, or can summon a Jinzo. It’s plain and simple. Is Mirror Force still a good card? Yes! By all means, it is! But in an environment where people play 3 MST, Heavy Storm, and HFD, non chainable Traps simply aren’t what they used to be. That’s why Cylinder went. I’m wondering…is Mirror Force next? It very well could be. On a side note, I personally DO still play Mirror Force (and Magic Cylinder). I like the cards, so I play them (I play a LOT of cards that people don’t like though…hehe). Well, there you have it. Until next time, this is Lord Tranorix (Jason Cohen), signing off.
