Subject: my thoughts Time sent: 5/10/03, 11:45 P.M. This is about the fourth time I have posted something on Pojo and hopefully this one will generate some responses. I think too few people are focusing on just getting better cards rather than working with what they have. I happen to know a kid who wants all the Exodia pieces, but he doesn't even have the right cards to make an Exodia deck work (no Black Forest Witch or Cannon Soldier). I know another kid who has Gate Guardian and two of its three pieces. He has tried for weeks to trade for or buy the last one (Suijin) just so he can use one of the most unwieldy cards in all of Duel Monsters. And why? Because it's a powerful card (in terms of ATK and DEF). And another thing. Why is it I'm always hearing about these awesome beatdown or Clown Control decks that win tourneys? Yeah, I know a guy who won a tourney with a Clown Control, but that was mostly because it also had some deck depletion cards in it (i.e. Morphing Jar and Card Destruction in the sideboard). But someone has to think at least a little outside the box here. And that's what I did. I run a pretty standard beatdown, but with 2 Cannon Soldiers (1 side, 1 main). I call my deck Cannon Soldier Burnout, even though the strategy is beatdown. But I'm getting off topic. The thing is, just go ahead and make the Shield and Sword deck you always wanted to use or buy that Beast of Talwar instead of Gemini Elf. Better yet, make a deck built around Ritual cards. Whatever you want to do. Well, it looks like Upper Deck/Konami is at it again. This time, the turned Hades into Ha Des (as in Dark Ruler Ha Des). My only question is what were those guys high on? Hades (in case you didn't know) is an ancient Greek god. And we all know that that's a dead religion. So why change the name? I also think the release of Legacy of Darkness is about a month or two too early. UD/K needs to slow things down. But I really shouldn't be boffing those guys. After all, Yu-Gi-Oh! wouldn't even exist without them, and I think we should appreciate that. Something I have noticed in tips and tourney reports is that people often forget the rules. For instance, I saw a tourney report in which the kid sending the e-mail had 12,000 LP at the end. This is not possible (the maximum is 10,000 LP). I have also seen many players play monsters in face-up defence position, play traps directly from their hand on their own turn (this is actually legal with counter traps), and try to summon powerful monsters without a tribute. When I go to a Toys "R" Us tourney (which, thankfully, isn't very often), my opponents often want to play by "Pegasus' Rules." (no tributes) They rarely want to play by official rules (they call them "Kaiba's Rules"). Hello, people! Read the freakin' rulebook! As for the older kids who already know this, good for you. Don't break your arms patting yourselves on the back. Is it just me, or am I really tired of all the newbies who suddenly burst onto the scene and become good because they got 10 starter decks and 5 booster boxes for their birthdays? This is getting ridiculous. UD/K should do stuff to make Ultra- and Secret-Rare cards easier to get. I'd like to see more than just a few people dominate each tourney. I think Yu-Gi-Oh! has lost some of its fun. Maybe it will get better if it becomes even more like Magic than it already is. Or maybe it will get better if UD/K holds back Pharaonic Guardian until October (of 2007). Who knows? For that matter, who cares? How's my driving? e-mail me at kungfuaxedemon1000@yahoo.com P.S. Long live King Cannon Soldier! P.P.S. Don't ask me to fix your deck, don't e-mail me any viruses, etc.
