Subject: The Future of Yu-Gi-Oh - Kid Echo Hello fellow duelist. This is Kid Echo coming in to drop a little more of my endless sea opinions on you all. This random mass of words is on the future of Yu-Gi-Oh. Well… In the ever-immortal words of Judge Mills Lane, “Let’s get it on!” I know a lot of you have probably heard that Upper Deck is limiting the production run of Labyrinth of Nightmare to 30% of the total run of Pharaohs Servant. Why…? The obvious reason. They are obeying the law. The law of Supply and Demand, that is. For those of you who haven’t taken an Economics class, I’ll spell this one out for you with a simple equation. HIGH DEMAND + LOW SUPPLY = $$$. Easy enough, right? I mean, if the numskulls at Upper Deck can figure it out then so can you. This law will bring an end to the English game of Yu-Gi-oh. I will give a few reasons why. Yu-Gi-Oh is a COLLECTIBLE CARD GAME, and should be treated as such. Why in the world would you limit the production of a GAME? Do you think Parker Brothers (correct me if it’s a different company) is going to limit the production of Monopoly? Do you think Bicycle is going to limit the production of playing cards? The answer is NO. Three years from now I will still be able to find them. Why…? BECAUSE I WILL STILL WANT TO PLAY THE GAMES. Any company that produces games can see the logic in making its games available to its gamers. But wait… obviously that is a false statement. Upper Deck has single handedly succeeded in proving that one wrong. They treat Yu-Gi-Oh as if it is a set of football cards (no offense I collect them myself). Upper Deck is not putting game-worn jerseys into the cards and the cards are not autographed. So why do they act like it? IT IS ONLY A GAME. Another thing. Upper Deck has halted the production of the original starter decks. This one boggles the mind. IF YOU STOP MAKING STARTER DECKS, HOW IN THE HECK DO NEW PLAYERS GET INTO THE GAME? Total Mindblower!! (Yeah I know new starters are coming out, but lets be real, I’d take a Yugi Starter Deck over a Joey Starter Deck any day of the week.) Within the next few months Yu-Gi-Oh will be a thing of the past. Gone with the wind. Down the toilet. Done. Finished. Period. This is if Upper Deck continues on the road that they a traveling on. Which I believe they will continue to do. Let me end this by telling you all something I observed this weekend. A father and son were looking into the display case at my local card shop. The father says, “Sixty dollars for one card?” (he was looking at the Exodia pieces), then he says, “Son… It’s time for you to find a new hobby.” Then he walked out of the store. Maybe it’s time for all of us to find a new hobby. Maybe it’s time for us to get out our translations and start playing Japanese cards. Which are much easier to get a hold of. I would much rather continue playing with cards that I can read, but Upper Deck is leaving gamers with no choice. Signing off, Kid Echo Concerned Duelist Agree? Disagree?
