Subject: a full explanation of Waboku, random rulings, and other stuff - Pegasus First of all, I want to explain Waboku completely so that its effect makes perfect sense. To do that, I have to explain the concept of "battle damage." Waboku and Battle Damage When two monsters battle (if both are in attack mode), they do battle damage to each other equal to their ATK points. For example, if a Summoned Skull attacked a Kuriboh, the SS would do 2500 Battle Damage to the Kuriboh, and the Kuriboh would do 300 Battle Damage to the SS. Now, this is how you decide whether a monster dies or not: If a monster takes battle damage equal to or greater than its ATK, it dies. The difference is doen as "overflow damage" to its controller's LP. For an ATK monster attacking a DEF monster, it's the same thing except the monster in ATK mode can't die, and the monster in DEF mode doesn't cause any overflow damage to its controller if it dies. So, in this example, the Skull's ATK is higher than the battle damage, so it does not die, and no damage is taken. However, the Kuriboh's ATK is lower than the battle damage done to it, so it dies, and 2200 damage (2500 - 300) is done to Kuriboh's controller. Now to Waboku: What Waboku does is make all the battle damage to all of your monsters equal to 0 for the rest of the turn. So in the above example, if the player with Kuriboh activates Waboku, Kuriboh has 0 Battle Damage done to it, so it does not die, and no damage is taken. This explains the Mega Thunderball vs. Mega Thunderball scenario very logically: Since one Mega Thunderball took 750 battle damage, it dies. The other one (the Waboku-protected one) does not, since it took 0 battle damage. Note: Waboku does ***NOT*** reduce ATK to 0. If you'd bothered to read the PDF carefully enough, you'll notice that the situation it describes is a Sanga vs. a Blue-eyes. The blue-eyes' ATK was reduced to zero BECAUSE OF SANGA'S EFFECT. The Random Rulings 1. Spirit Reaper's effect will only activate if it actually does damage with its direct attack. 2. If you use a monster's effect to turn it face-down, you cannot change its mode manually for the rest of the turn. However, if you shift a monster from ATK mode to DEF mode or vice versa, you may still use that monster's effect to turn it face-down in the same turn. 3. You CANNOT summon a Blue-eyes Toon Dragon or a Manga Ryu-ran with Flute of Summoning Dragon. 4. You CANNOT summon a Toon monster with Ultimate Offering. 5. If you use Secret Pass to the Treasures on a monster, YOU CANNOT CHANGE ITS ATK BY A SPELL, TRAP, OR MONSTER EFFECT FOR THE REST OF THE TURN. This includes Lily's effect, by the way. 6. You CANNOT use Horn of Heaven or Royal Oppression to negate a Special Summon that doesn't occur through the monster's own card effect (Monster Reborn, Troop Commander, etc.). If you want to use Solemn Judgment, you have to negate the card that's summoning. You cannot negate the summon itself. 7. If you have a The Legendary Fisherman and Umi or A Legendary Ocean on the field, your opponent may attack you directly. For example, your opponent can summon a Gemini Elf and do 1900 damage to your Life Points. 8. If you have two Troop Commanders on the field, your opponent may NOT attack you directly. However, they can still attack directly with cards like Jinzo #7. 9. If you activate Scapegoat and chain Last Turn to it, Scapegoat still activates. And it'll activate after Last Turn. Meaning an automatic draw. 10. You can tribute Scapegoat tokens to summon Lava Golem. 11. You can still set monsters if you used Scapegoat, Jam Breeding Machine, or Last Warrior. Flipping them during battle is also legal. 12. Flips during battle count towards Mysterious Puppeteer's effect. 13. If you have Light of Intervention and Last Warrior on the field, your opponent may not set a card in face-up DEF mode, since it counts as a summon. 14. Necrovalley negates Fiber Jar. 15. Skull Lair, Kycoo, and Bazoo now officially only affect monsters. They've finally been returned to their useless Japanese selves! Woo! 16. Barrel Behind the Door and Trap of Board Erasing do NOT work on cost damage. 17. The only cards that can be activated during the damage step are cards that change ATK/DEF by a fixed amount and counter traps. So yes, you CAN activate Magic Jammer or 7 Tools during the Damage Step. 18. You may not activate two Scapegoats in the same turn. 19. If you activate Scapegoat during your opponent's turn, you cannot use Ultimate Offering or Call of the Haunted. 20. Ceasefire and Just Desserts deal damage in one blow, so Dark Room of Nightmare will add 300 to the total. 21. Dark Ruler Ha Des doesn't negate Sinister Serpent's effect. 21. If two Dark Ruler Ha Des battle each other and kill each other off, they do not negate each other's effects (both of them STILL can't be revived). Other Stuff I'm sick of how fast Upperdeck is releasing new sets. They don't bother to check their translations and translate card effects incorrectly (Super Robolady/Roboyarou, Troop Dragon, Kycoo/Bazoo/Skull Lair). I'm equally sick of how many people blame Upperdeck for this. Konami of America tells Upperdeck what to print and when to print it. Upperdeck just prints it. I'm even sicker of how Upperdeck released a statement saying Kycoo negates Nobleman of Crossout. Kycoo prevents removing from the graveyard. Nobleman of Crossout skips the graveyard, and removes cards directly from the field. Therefore, it's not affected. It's just common sense! Props to DM7FGD for putting a link to Edo's page on his second article, though. I'd just like to point out that his name stands for "Duel Monsters 7 Five God Dragon." Five God Dragon is Mythic Dragon's Japanese name (the name on the card actually runs "F G D." He does review those cards quite thoroughly, doesn't he? Well, that's it for now.
