[Alxgoody@aol.com] The truth about Ced and The truth about Chaos-By Alex Goodman Ok, I have recently been hearing around here the following comments regarding the dreaded CED: "It's so broken I just can't look....." "No card is unstoppable except CED" "Yay! now n00bs will can't beat me with CED once the ban comes." All these comments and more can be found everywhere there's yugioh. But is CED really that dreadful? lets read this cards backround and effect, incase you don't already know. Dragon / Effect Monster "This card can only be Special Summoned by removing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster in your Graveyard from play. Pay 1000 of your Life Points to send all cards in both players' hands and on the field to the Graveyard. Inflict 300 points of damage to your opponent's Life Points for each card that is sent to the Graveyard by this effect." Type - Dark / 8 / 3000 / 2500 Card Number - IOC-000 CED was perhaps the most anticipated card to be released with in the history of Yu-gi-oh!. Everyone(icluding me) would do anything to get their hands on one and when he and BLS were obtained, many duelist had gained even easier access to a powerful dectype that even made Yata and his Controlo team fear. The Chaos deck, it was called was easily the top deck of the meta-game and didn't leave conrol and beatdown far behind. Infact, many people were making deck hybrids out of these deck-types. The Chaos Control Deck was soon to be the most feared deck in the Yu-gi-oh TCG. Soon, many experienced players soon found out why Invasion of chaos was the name of the latest set. Yes, this deck-type made yata the most hated bird in YGO, recieved twice as many complaints as control, and would soon be impossible to stand losing to chaos decks every week in your local tourney because you had to get packs and they could buy their cards. The cry of many duelists were heard by the executive board of upper-deck and konami. They soon had to make an agonizing choice. To put a ban-list into effect. Yes, the worst possible nightmare of many duelist was soon to come true. The Japs. Now live through the pain and so will we. We thought. Many advanced players were very happy to see that the meta-game will no longer be based on three major deck-types, that originality would be utilized in deck-building. Duelists will now have to think to their feet. But this was only going to get worse for chaos players. In September 2004, the japanese had chaned their forbidden/limited list, and America was destined to recieve such a list. Sure, cards such as MST, MJ, TT, and DMoC were greatly affected by new limits, but the main card on the new list that recieved so much attention was none other than CED. "yes, they finally banned that broken beast!" was cried by many duelist. Yes, if you thought that banning painful would hurt chaos, then replacing it with CED was just a sad thought! Many Chaos decks will fall, even with an optional list, it still technically falls. IMO, flame me all you want, but this card was WAY overrated and shouldn't have been banned. Why? AS powerful as this card can possibly get after the ban of cards like Raigeki and HFD, There is still one thing that most duelists had overlooked about this card. The fact that this card can be stoppes and possibly kill your oponent instead. lets list the cards that can stop him: Barrel Behind the Door: Chain this to his effect and place all the damage to your opponent who expected a win. It may even result in a win for you! Trap of Board Eraser could also work. Sinister Serpent: It doesn't stop the damage but prevents hand destruction for you. Nuff said. Torential Tribute: Doesn't necessarily stop him, but greatly reduces the damage. Solemn Judgement+Horn of Heaven: Effects ay it all. Hallowed Life Barrier: What a shame that they banned CED before thinking about this card. I believe it not only prevents LP damage but also the removal of your monsters. Too bad we had to wait till SOD. There are probably a few others, but thats all I need to say. Peace Alex Goodman email: Alxgoody@aol.com
