Article 1—The ban list--
a burnish return.
[SorryButYoureWrong@gmail.com]
Hello everyone, this is LeftWithHonor, from the message
boards, with my first article. I will write more if I get positive feedback; now
onto the article.
Ah yes, the ban list; a revolution
in the days of yugioh. Now some of you may be welcoming this new dawn in our
card game, and others may be yelling “OMFG UPPERDECK YOU N00B WTF!!!11!!!1 THOSE
UDDER @SS DUELISS JUS CNT AFRD CED!!!!111” These next few articles which I’ll be
writing are geared towards the duelists who follow the first option.
As you can see, this article will be discussing the return of the
burn deck. With MST down to one and duster non-existent, we may actually see one
of these make it to top 8, in the world tournament 05’.
Here is the first burner we’ll be analyzing
Deck: 41
Monsters: 16
3x solar flare dragon
3x Giant germ
3x Lava Golem
2x Stealth Bird
1x Cyber Jar
1x Des Koala
1x Morphing jar
1x Fiber jar
1x Sinister serpent
Magic: 8
2x Level Limit-Area B
2x Dark room of Nightmare
1x Pot of greed
1x Change of heart
1x Heavy storm
1x MST
Traps: 17
3x Gravity Bind
2x Mask of restrict
2x Secret Barrel
2x Curse of Darkness
2x Judgment of Anubis
2x Nightmare Wheel
1x Ceasefire
1x Magic cylinders
1x Ring of Destruction
Now before I review the deck, I just need to alert everyone that this is my
personal burn deck. You do not have to follow my example AT ALL, this is merely
a suggestion.
Monsters:
Yes, this is a lava golem deck. The golems come out, and solar flare and stealth
bird slowly burn away. Cyber jar is a very good replenisher of resources, and so
is the morphing jar, but seeing as a lot of players don’t have it, it may be
replaced with a miscellaneous burn monster.
Magics:
As you can see, the magic cards in this deck are few and far between. I find
most of them unnecessary with the curse of darkness and all the backup traps.
The level limits are your typical stall, and the dark rooms are great, combo’d
with golem and solar flare. I added MST just because duster is gone, and storm
again, is a card I play but you may find too risky, due to the high number of
traps. You could also notice that I don’t run any reborn cards. Especially with
witch and sangan banned from play, I don’t feel any reborn cards are necessary.
Traps:
Ah, here we go; the meat and potatoes of the deck. In my personal burn deck, I
tend to run the traps very high. I will lower this number significantly when
reviewing the other burn deck types. Magic stoppage is very strong in this deck.
This is one of the reasons the magic number is so low. The curse of darkness’s
hurt magic use on their own, and I also make sure that even if some of the cards
I use to stop attacks are destroyed, there will always be another one to use.
With the cyber jar, morphing jar, and the stall cards; getting your opponent in
a golem, restrict, Judgment of Anubis, nightmare wheel, etc… lock is easier then
one would imagine.

Next we’ll be analyzing the ever-popular (not really) dark burner. I have only
seen this run once, by my friend Rob. I personally don’t see the point, because,
for your tomato’s to be destroyed your opponent has to have the ability to
attack and I don’t think it is useful to give him that ability when running a
burner.
Dark burner: 40
Monsters 15
3x Stealth Bird
3x Cannon Soldier
3x Mystic Tomato
3x Bowganian
1x Fiber Jar
1x Sinister Serpent
1x Cyber Jar
Magics: 15
3x Dark room of nightmare
1x Pot of Greed
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
2x Level Limit-Area B
1x Change of Heart
2x Enemy Controller
1x Creature swap
1x Premature Burial
3x Scapegoat
Traps10
1x Judgment of Anubis
1x Ring of Destruction
1x Magic Cylinder
3x Gravity Bind
1x Magic Jammer/Drain
1x Call of the Haunted
1x Waboku
1x Ceasefire
Monsters:
I think it’s pretty obvious here. Get your dark monsters out via cyber jar/
mystic tomato, and burn the hell out of your opponent.
Magics:
This section also adds a bit of field control to the deck along with the burn.
Obviously, you have your stall aspect. Furthermore, the dark room of nightmare’s
combo well when you manage to get multiple copies of bowganian/stealth bird/
cannon soldier and tokens out. Furthermore the creature swap and enemy
controllers also combo well with scapegoat, just in case your opponent has a
threat.
Traps: Here comes the decks’ back up support. The main point of the dark deck
should be its burn MONSTERS, but in this case we have our back up basic burn
cards; Ring of destruction/ Ceasefire. (Ceasefire will hurt A LOT when you start
swarming the field with darks)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally, we will be examining a very unorthodox burn deck, but one that has
potential to be the strongest and deadliest of them all.
Princess Burn: 40
Monsters: 16
3x Fire Princess
1x Sinister Serpent
3x Marie The Fallen One
3x Nimble Momonga
3x U.F.O turtle
1x Cyber Jar
1x Cure Mermaid
1x Fiber Jar
Magic/Spells: 14
1x Painful Choice
1x Premature Burial
1x Mystical Space Typhoon
2x Level Limit- Area B
3x Poison of the Old Man
3x Goblin Thief
1x Heavy Storm
1x Emergency Provisions
1x Mystic Wok
Traps: 10
2x Gravity Bind
1x Call of the Haunted
2x Magic Jammer
2x Draining Shield
3x Solemn Wishes
Monsters:
Again, this is relatively obvious. U.F.O turtles search out your princesses,
which are the cards that make the deck work. Momonga’s are more deck thinning
and life point gain, and a cure mermaid is thrown in as a mid-game boost.
Magics: First off, we have painful choice, which is ESSENTIAL to getting your
marie’s in the graveyard. I cannot stress this enough, as it can be the most
devastating thing you do with this deck, as long as a princess resides on your
field. We also give the deck our typical life point gain/burn cards such as
poison and goblin thief. An emergency provision and a Mystic Wok are also thrown
in as a last resort.
Traps: We have our typical stall traps, but the main focus here are our draining
shields and solemn wishes. Again, when activated, especially with a princess on
the field, (moreso the solemn wishes) is a deadly move. I also throw in 2 magic
jammer for negation, and to get those pesky marie’s into the graveyard.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That is the end of the article, and I hope you understand the depth to which burn will be a major played type after the ban list. Of course, this article only covers a few of the types of burn decks that exist. In my opinion, burn has an almost limitless amount of possibilities to what it could contain. A few examples that weren’t mentioned in this article are the wave motion cannon burn, the bad reaction to simochi burn, and the ring/barrel burn.
Again, I state that my articles, just like any other person/duelists are opinions and advice, and by no means are law. This is an encouragement of some exciting deck types that will create some great matches and end the days of the ‘Hand of crap, yata lock’.
Good luck and happy building.
