Subject: Magic Ruler and the Metagame: Breaking the Magic Ruler Block - Andrew Lee With the relese of Magic Ruler on the horizon, and most people knowing that Magic Ruler is two certain japanese sets put together (as are all the other US sets) we can take a look at the cards in each set and figure out ways to use them. Look out for a new deck type with the release of Magic ruler. Though it's still hard to pull off, Deck Destruction gets a huge boost with Hurricane, which puts all magic/trap cards into players hands. While Heavy Storm is more effective for removal, using a card destruction after will most likely make his deck smaller than yours. Magician of Faiths keep the fun going. Also, the Grave Keeper Familiar discards a card from the top of the deck when an opponenet attacks, while Demon Investigator forces a player to draw 3 cards and discard any magic from it. Of course, this deck will be even better once Metamol Jar (otherwise known of Morphing Jar, which is also restricted, think Ultimate Offering and be satisfied) and Needle Worm (which discards the top 5 cards of an opponent's library) come out in Booster Chornicle. Also, Emissary of Peace costs 100 life points each turn, but 1500+ attack monsters can't attack. Think Swords of Revealing Light on steroids or something. Also in are the contreversial Toon Cards. All toons attack life points directly if you opponent has no toons on the field. Certain cards can only attack toons and not non-toons, and other toons have added effects that they didn't have in their non-toon state. The bad thing about toons is, they get nuked if your toon world leaves play, and toon world itself costs 1000 life points to play, 500 life points to keep it that way, all toons take 500 life points to attack. This is a phenomally bad thing to base your deck around, because all your opponent has to do is rid your toon world and your strategy crumbles like there's no tommorow. Playing this against an Exodia Deck or defensive deck especially is dangerous, since they all run 3 Magic Jammers and at least one or two Solemn Judgements. Very very bad. Other cards such as Theft and Demon Axe will compliment creature decks nicely. The Penguin Knight, Yugi's Feldon's Cane, shuffles your graveyard into your library as an effect, very nice thing to have. Also makes exodia decks a bit more playable. other good cards include Labrynth wall, a one-tribute 3000 defense creature, sure to find it's way into all defensive decks and Shield and Swords decks, and Chaos Pod, which is the first card to appear that is an integral part of the infamous 1-st turn kill deck in Japan. As a conclusion, most decks are boosted in strength and ability, watch of for Card Destruction decks. F/S Beatdown should be able to take it down if you get a good, fast draw. Well, that's all for now, email me at Andrewllee@yahoo.com, i actually got email last time, but i'm usually not on on weekdays, i'm a student y'know :-P seeya -andy
