Subject: 6 Common Deckbuilding Mistakes Hi. I'm Barrel Dragon, the one who wrote the articles "11 Steps for Deckbuilding" (August 6) and "21 Tips for Balance in Decks" (August 15) Today, I bring you another set of tips that you can add to those, this one on common mistakes made when building a deck. So, without further adieu, I bring you __ common deckbuilding mistakes. 1)The deck's strategy is Same Type/Attribute (ex. Dark/Zombie). Using the same type is NOT a sufficient strategy. The type powerups will have become obsolete by mid-September, when Magic Ruler comes out, and the strongest cards are spread among several types. 2)Overloading a deck. 45 cards is PLENTY. I'm sure you can take out SOMETHING. 3)Trying to do everything. Focus on ONE main strategy. 4)Not using support cards. For example, if your main card is Barrel Dragon, you should probably use denial as your theme. Support cards for the example would include Magic Jammer, Seven Tools of the Bandit, Tribute to the Doomed, and Trap Hole. 5)Basing the theme on the main card. You need to do the opposite, basing the main card on the theme. Don't choose Barrel Dragon and then decide on a denial deck, choose a denial deck and then decide on Barrel Dragon. 6)Using your favorite cards just because you think they're cool. Okay, so Curse of Dragon looks cooler than Summoned Skull. That doesn't mean you should put in 3 CoD and no SS. I know this wasn't much, but maybe it'll help.
