Subject: Lord of D. correction - wartortle32 I've gotten a lot of responses from my tips, mostly on Lord of D., some of it pretty spiteful. I've decided to settle the Lord of D. thing once and for all. Example: "And OH MY GOD!? I can't believe people out there(you mainly) are still bitching about Lord of D. and his protection over dragons just because they can't win againgst him! Please, get a better deck so that you dont have to bother good duelist about losing to a good one! " What is wrong with this? This person is insulting my dueling skills, and why? Cause he assumes he is correct, and I of course would be wrong. So I'm going to take some time out of my day to settle this. First of all, what is the text on Lord of D.? Well, as most know, there are actually 2 different texts that have been released. The first shipment of the Kaiba starter deck (mostly first edition, but some unlimited) had the text that read : "All Dragon-Type monsters are not affected by Magic Cards, Trap Cards, or other effects while this card is face-up on the field." Now if this was the correct text, I would be wrong and be apologizing profusely on bended knee. However, in the second shipment of the Kaiba deck, Upperdeck revised the text on Lord of D. to say. "All dragon type monsters cannot be targeted by magic cards, Trap cards, or other effects that specifically designate a target while this card is face up on the field." But what does this change in text mean? What does targeted mean? Let's take a look at the Upperdeck website. This is directly from their FAQ: "Specifically Designated Target Q: What is an example of Magic Cards, Trap Cards, or other effect cards that specifically designate a target? A: Equip Magic Cards, "Change of Heart", "Two Pronged Attack", and the effects of "Man-Eater Bug" and "Hane-Hane" are all examples of cards that specifically designate a target. All these cards require that a specific card be selected as the target of the effect. By contrast, cards such as "Dark Hole", "Raigeki", "Trap Hole", "Fissure", "Mirror Force" and Field Magic Cards are EXCLUDED. This is because their effects are automatic, or affect the whole field." http://www.upperdeckentertainment.com/yugioh/faq.asp So what do we get from this? A designated targeted is where basically, the player chooses the target for an effect. An effect that is not targeted is where the player does not choose the target for an effect. The Lord of D. will only protect dragons against targeted effects. I think I've made this perfectly clear. So to sum it up: STOP MAILING ME ABOUT LORD OF D.!!!!!! *shakes fist threateningly* If you would like to write me on another subject, that's perfectly fine. My address is wartortle32@yahoo.com.
