KaodMaster@aol.com Snodin's Top Ten Unanswered Yu-Gi-Oh Questions Hi, all! Snodin's back again with yet another wild and wacky Top Ten category for you to point and laugh at… Seriously though, it's all in fun; however, some of these questions I'm about to throw your way may actually make you stop and think…. Whatever it is you think about is up to you, of course. Now let the insanity begin. 10) Q: In "Duel Identity, when Yugi had the chance to use Monster Reborn on either Dark Magician or Summoned Skull, which would have been all the power he needed to wipe out Mai's Harpy Ladies (who were, at the time, powered up to 2450), why didn't he take it?? -I mean, come ON! He used it to bring back Gaia the Fierce Knight, and then discarded that and Kuriboh to summon Black Luster Soldier. Granted, it was a cool way to introduce the Soldier… but in a real duel, if YOU had a chance to bring back a 2500-ATK monster to slay either that annoying Pet Dragon or the Harpy Sisters, you'd TAKE IT!! 9) Q: Why did Mako Tsunami have a Wind-type monster in his all-Sea deck in Battle City? -Okay fine, it was a "Flying Fish." So what? Not only did it not fit the Water theme, but it was also incredibly weak. He was lucky to keep it on the field long enough to Tribute for Amphibian Beast. 8) Q: Is it just me… or were the dueling rules at Duelist Kingdom REALLY confusing? -I have to admit, Duelist Kingdom was pretty decent at the time. In fact, it stands as the one story arc in which duels were guaranteed to begin and end in the same episode! But after looking back on it a few times, I realize just how different it was when compared to the more standard way of dueling in Battle City. For starters, the Field power boosts were off the charts (how strong WAS Harpy Lady when Mai first summoned her?), and they had restrictions on which Main Type overpowered another (i.e., Dinosaurs were weak against all Fire-types). Like I said, fun at the time… but now it's just got me riddled with confusion. 7) Q: What is it with Tranorix and the word "rentsy?" -Sorry, this is kind of a joke and kind of not… Tranorix, you really have to find a word that people can actually understand. Besides, it's getting a little annoying. [A: Come on now; don't be rentsy. - LT] 6) Q: When is Tristan ever gonna learn how to play Duel Monsters? -I nearly fell out of my chair in shock when I saw Tristan dueling for the very first time in Noah's virtual world. …Then I nearly busted a gut when I saw just how weak his monsters were (all except Command Angel, which by the way only helped Serenity's deck, not his). Plus, even now when we're in the middle of [what, the fourth story arc or season? I lost count], he still asks questions about certain monster and general game rules. Come on, man; there's gotta be a brain somewhere in that pointy head! (Granted, Tea asks a lot of stupid questions too, but at least she's been in more duels than Tristan… and she's actually won.) 5) Q: When are they just going to SHUT UP AND GET TO THE ACTION?? -Have you noticed how long Battle City's story arc went on?? Every duel had to be finished in at least two episodes, to make room for a plot. Now I can see how that can build up interest… but when you repeat the same plot over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and OVER again, it just feels too redundant. I've heard of the term "at nauseam," but the whole Marik thing [Ishizu: "Please, Pharoah, save my brother"] really did make me sick by the time they finally got to Alcatraz. (Yes kids, Kaiba's duel tower was on Alcatraz.) I really don't know how I'm going to get through this new plot, with Yami thinking he was once a bad guy. 4) Q: Don't you just HATE it when they get a monster's stats wrong? -It's very rare when they actually make a mistake on a Monster's Main or Sub-type, but when it happens, I often find myself cringing. For example, in Kaiba's duel with Noah, he played Dragon's Rage, which only effects Dragon-type Monsters... yet he also used it on Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon, and it's a THUNDER-Type! *sigh* Honestly, I wish THTD really was a dragon; I'd probably still be using it in my Dragon deck. But that's just one example of how a monster or any other card was played wrong due to poor judgement. 3) Q: How fun is it to critique the more dramatic duels? -I've seen at least one Top Ten Mistakes Made in (such-and-such) duel, and I gotta tell ya, it's fun to read! I already came up with a few of my own, but truthfully I only scratched the surface. There were a million things wrong especially in the Para and Dox duel; certain monster ATK points were miscalculated, certain monsters were summoned the wrong way… you know the deal. But the reason why I'm only mentioning this now is because I just like to point out maybe one or two "mistakes" made in a single duel, instead of just denouncing an entire battle. You know what I mean? But I gotta give credit where credit is due: when they make mistakes left and right, it shows. 2) Q: Why does Yugi insist on summoning Kuriboh? -Again, I nearly fell out of my seat in shock, but this time it was when Yugi actually USED Kuriboh's special ability in his duel with Kaiba in Battle City (and yes, I would like to point out something that Alex mentioned in his anti-Clash in Coliseum TTL, that Yugi didn't have Kuriboh in his hand before the commercial break). Every other time you see Kuriboh, he's summoned to the field. Okay, so he's cute… Big deal! If Yugi is really serious about being the King of Games, he should have a deck full of cookie-cutters and not cute little hairballs! 1) Q: Speaking of duel mistakes… What did I miss? -Okay folks, it's time you go ahead and give me your own unanswered questions about either the anime, Pojo, or anything else related to Yu-Gi-Oh! I know there have been more dueling mistakes, or "rentsy" story plots that have you baffled, and maybe if I get enough responses, I'll make a sequel to this List. Send me your unanswered questions at the following email address: Snodin: KaodMaster@aol.com I'm looking forward to your questions.
