Ryu’s Top 10 cards that “really” should be in every deck

I often look at most of the posted “Top 10 best cards” list, and think “not every deck can find all of these extremely useful.” So I decided to create a Top 10 list that “every” deck can use, no matter what kind of theme (or no theme) they run.

10.- Sangan

No matter what kind of deck you run, this card can always fetch that certain effect monster card you’re looking for. It might not be able find “strong” monsters, but it can find monsters with killer effects, since a majority of good effect monsters have weak stats.

9- Witch of the Black Forest

Looking for that much needed beat-stick? Want Jinzo? An effect monster? This card can find them. Since a majority of strong monsters have weak defense, Witch of the Black Forest is a card most often used in decks.

8.- Mirror Force/Magic Cylinder

I know what you’re thinking. “What about all that Spell/Trap removal going around?” Well for starters, your opponent can’t have it around “all” the time. Also, having these cards in your deck will either surprise your opponent when he/she attacks, or even make them paranoid to attack you. Since both in a deck doesn’t always work well, you should have at least one (if you can get your hands on one).

7.- Dark Hole/Raigeki

I listed this as one category because not everyone can get their hands on a Raigeki. Even if you run a control, Exodia, or stall deck, these cards can temporarily cripple your opponent, since he/she won’t have any monsters on the field.

6.- Heavy Storm/Harpies Feather Duster

I also listed this as one category because of the same reason as #7. With all the Spell/Trap removal going on in the environment, removing those dreaded face down s/t cards your opponent set can be quite useful. Even if you run a Water, Insect, Toon, or any other theme that uses field cards, you’ll still want to have something to clear your opponents s/t zone before setting your own (or if you’re using Duster, no worries there). You never know what your opponent might have set when you get ready to summon, attack, activate, or even use a cards effect.

5.- Magician of Faith/Mask of Darkness

Yeah-yeah. I know you all are afraid of Nobleman of Crossout, but the chances of him nailing your mof or mod (especially if you only put 1 or 2 in your deck) are pretty low when you think about it (unless you have bad luck). With all the monsters in the dueling environment (except for beatdowns) being put face-down, your opponent will never know when to use Nobleman. I bet you’re also worried about Dark Balter and Sasuke Samurai. Well don’t be, because “every” face down card has to worry about those two, so why worry at all? Depending on whether you use mof or mod, depends on whether you’re going to rely on Spells or Traps more (or both, and in that case, use both of them).

4.- Mystical Space Typhoon

Who “doesn’t” like the idea of an unrestricted s/t removal? Most decks are running 3 of these, and with good reason, since it’s a quick-play, and can destroy any face-up or face-down s/t on the field.

3.- Change of Heart

Until this gets banned, it remains extremely useful. Being able to control your opponent’s monster for a turn is always good, whether you use it to steal an effect, use it as tribute, or to attack with it. Like mst, this card is very versatile, and just about any deck can use it for any reason.

2- Monster Reborn

This needs no explanation, really. You get to revive a powerful monster from either you or your opponent’s graveyard and make it your own, or you could bring back Witch or Sangan to use their effects again, or you can even bring a monster back to use as tribute for an even stronger monster.

And the #1 card every deck should have is…………..

1.- Pot of Greed

You get 2 cards with no drawbacks. What’s not to like? People often overlook its great importance because of its simplicity, but every one of us is always thinking “Yes!” when we draw it. And with the help of mof, we can use its effect again if we like. Besides, everyone knows that the more you are able to draw, the faster you can get to the card (s) you will need to win the duel.

Well, that’s the end of this list. Here are some honorable mentions:

Graceful Charity/ Jinzo/ Imperial Order/ Magic Jammer/ Tribe Infecting Virus/ Sinister Serpent/ Penguin Soldier/ Dust Tornado/ Cyber Jar/ Fiber Jar.
