Mijuu Lannes' Yu-GiOh Top 10- Big Bad Bugs!

Welcome, I’m Mijuu Lannes from Michigan, and soon you will learn of the top 10 Big Bad Bugs! For those that don’t know, I play an insect based deck, which is surprisingly stable and can go head to head with many of the commonly used tournament and competitive play decks. It is one of the deck types not seen often, but, it can be very effective. Now, lets see these extreme creepy crawlies.....

Big Bad Bugs: If you dont already fear them, you WILL now!

10. Skull Marked Ladybug

Earth/4/500/1500

When this is sent to the grave you gain 1000 points. Life-gain can help at times. If an opponent destroys it you get more points,  if they use a trample monster (lets say spear dragon) you still gain points, you can discard it from your hand at an appropriate time or use it to pay for graceful charity and you gain points, you can sacrifice it and you gain points. In short, this can be used like any other monster except you get something back. Yep, points are good.

9. 4-Star Ladybug of Death

Earth/3/800/1200

This is one bug your opponent does NOT want to crush if they run a beatdown deck, or anything but weenie. Most monsters are level 4 and these are used more than any other level of monster. Any lower, and its usually weak. Any higher, and it’s a tribute. When this is flipped, it wipes out all level 4 monsters on your opponents field. This has a chance to be devastating to your opponent, leaving them open to be swarmed by all your creepy crawlers.

8.Needle Worm

Earth/2/750/600

This bug may not be big, but as one of the smaller effect  insects, it’s BAD to the bone! (not that insects have bones) This ends up at number 8 because of its extreme rarity, in addition its not staple material but if you have it, play it. When an opponent steps on this and it gets flipped, OUCH! Five cards from the top of the deck out the window! If possible, try to pack two, though if you get one that may be the only one you’ll ever have. Out of a 40 card deck, 5 cards makes up 8%, and that increases as the number of cards in your opponents deck goes down. It’s especially effective when used later in the game.

7. Pinch Hopper

Wind/4/1000/1200

When this big bad bug is sent to the grave from the field you can special summon any insect monster from your hand. This is an insect deck staple that must be had. Not only does it let you special summon even high-level insects, it protects your field. Special summoning is an insect specialty, if your opponent plays Raigeki and wipes your field clean you can still special summon a monster in facedown defense or in face up attack. If you sacrifice it, you can get another monster and assemble more forces.

6. Neo Bug

Earth/4/1800/1700

A very stable insect type that’s up to par with many of the beatdown monsters you see in tournament play. This would be one of your primary attackers, good alongside Arsenal Bug. Perhaps the only flaw  is its high defense. This stops you from searching it out with Witch of The Black Forest. However, by using the Insect Imitation magic card, you can sacrifice any monster and special summon an Insect monster one level higher.

5. Arsenal Bug

Earth/3/2000/2000

This is an insect you should consider having in your arsenal. At level 3 it can slip under gravity bind and is a non-tribute with 2000 atk and equal def. There is no cost, however, if there are no other insects on your field its atk and defense points drop to 1000. It is very strong, but its strength lies in having at least one other insect on the field. Maintaining numbers is not usually a problem in insect decks.

4. Jirai Gumo

Earth/4/2200/100

This is a stable insect with high attack points for its level, though it comes at a price. When you attack you have to flip a coin. Calling it wrong will still let you attack, but, you will lose half your lifepoints. I would not attack with this unless my opponent was open or I knew I could deal serious damage. It is especially good for keeping opponents monsters off your back while you assemble your forces.

3. Steel Armor Beetle

Earth/8/2800/1500

You’ll be seeing this in Ancient Sanctuary. This is a normal monster and almost like the blue eyes of insects, certainly one big bad bug. Though it lacks an effect , it makes up for it in sheer power. Because of its low defense ,it can be searched by Witch of the Black Forest. Special summoning with Pinch Hopper is a must.

2. Insect Queen

Earth/7/2200/2400

With this card, you gain 200 extra points for every insect on the field. This is definitely a monster you want to special summon with Pinch Hopper. With a full field on your own, you can give it 1000 extra points bringing it to 3200. This could be increased further with the Parasite Paraside combo. In addition you have to sacrifice a monster to attack. This is best done with Pinch Hopper or Skull Mark Ladybug. If you destroy an opponents monster you automatically summon an insect token (100/100). These are mostly useless except for sacrificing them for Insect Queen, kill them off when you get them in place of your monsters.

  1. Insect Princess

Wind/6/1900/1200

Insect princess is a serious powerhouse with its effect, if used just right. It’s a level 6, so you might want to use Pinch Hopper to special summon it. It can also be searched by Witch of The Black Forest. Every time you destroy an insect monster, you can boost its atk points by 500. You could use DNA Surgery, however, if you use Parasite Paraside instead you have the option to keep going, or after charging the princess to your liking, you may attack Parasite Paraside. All insects on your opponents side of the field must be in atk position, because of this they will take heavy damage after you land an attack on P.P. with Insect Princess. It is easy to charge and works better than most people think. I rank it higher than Insect Queen simply because it’s faster and has a much higher atk potential.
