Subject: Yu-Gi-Oh! - Top 10 Effect Monsters Hi people, my name is Gerry but you may call me 843 if you wish. These are the top 10 effect monsters in most people's and my opinions. I won't include numbers in here since I'm not really sure where to position each of them. Fiber Jar This is the most powerful effect monsters of all. It can simply ruin your opponent if you flip it yourself, but it can backfire as well. You can play this card defensively, if you're in a sticky situation, why not play this? You can play it offensively as well. When your opponent only has a few Life Points left, but he has all his deadly and dangerous cards on the field, flip this card. Although all those cards returned to your opponent's deck and he draw 5 new cards, you draw 5 cards as well. Besides, you get the upper hand since he got no monster or traps on the field (unless he hadn't set or summon a monster before attacking Fiber Jar, and set some trap cards on Main Phase 2). This card can only be countered by effect-negating cards like Royal Command, Dark Ruler Ha Des, Man-Eater Bug, Light of Intervention, Twin-Headed Wolf, and Shadow of Eyes, or destroyed before its effect activated. Cyber Jar Imagine if this is the only monster on the field, face down, and your opponent already has 5 powerful monsters on his/her side of the field. Your Cyber Jar is flipped, and BOOM! Those monsters are destroyed and you may set or summon extra monsters as well as your opponent. One deadly combo can be done with this card: Cyber Jar + Raigeki + Harpy's Feather Duster (if he/she has any Magic/Trap cards on the field). The monsters your opponent drew by the effect of Cyber Jar will be destroyed while yours are not. Then you get the chance to destroy them with all your monsters on the field (you may even summon another one). Morphing Jar #2 Shuffle your opponent's powerful monsters back into his/her deck, which means he/she would have to tribute summon those monsters again, but that's not the only advantage you have. One other advantage is the fact that if your Morphing Jar #2 is flipped because of one of your opponent's monster attack, their monsters special summoned by this card will be set on the field, which means that he/she is forced to end the turn as your opponent is not allowed to flip a monster the same turn as it's special summoned. Moreover, you'll know what's hiding in there. You can summon your monster and destroy one of those monsters. In addition, if your opponent draws a tribute monster or Magic/Trap cards, they will be discarded right away, which means your opponent may discard his/her Raigeki, Harpy's Feather Duster, etc. Dark Ruler Ha Des Although it's a tribute summon, this card is one of the most powerful single-tributing monster. It almost has the strength of Summoned Skull. It's effect is sweet as well. It let's you negate not only your opponent's effect, but flip effects as well. Only a few mosnters like Spirit Reaper (we'll come into this card later), Labyrinth Wall, Millenium Shield, monsters equipped with Heart of Clear Water and powerful monsters with attack strength of 2450 or more are able to withstand the attacks of this monster. This card can destroy almost anything, without those monsters' effects activated. Not only that, if you have another Fiend-type monster on the field, they will get this advantage as well. A great combo can be done with this card is by using DNA Surgery and choose Fiend as the type. All of your monsters, including your Blue Eyes White Dragon, will almost be indestructible. One of the few downsides this card have is the fact that it's vulnerable to destructive Magic cards like Raigeki or Fissure, and you may have to think twice before summoning it since it can be Trap Holed, or even worse, Bottomless Trap Holed. One of my best experience when using this card was when my opponent used Last Turn and he had a face-down Man-Eater Bug on the field (he was stuck and he intended to make the match a draw). Since my Dark Ruler Ha Des was still in my deck, I special summoned it and won the game. Yata Garasu This is an awesome card. Being able to prevent your opponent from drawing a card is almost worth its low attack points. It lets you win the game if played right, but it will backfire if not played right. Many people will, like my brother, surrender when he/she is Yata-locked. But if your opponent is smart enough, he will wait until you either decked out, or finish him/her off. This is not a card that requires strategy and supporting cards, not just a card that you can throw into your deck and confident that you will win with it. There are many ways to discard your opponent's side of the field and his/her hand, but again, requires a good strategy. You can use Final Destiny, laving Yata Garasu in your hand and clears off the field, then Delinquent Duo, Robbin' Goblin or Confiscation to destroy your opponent's hand. This card can help you win even if you have only a few Life Points left, while your opponent still has 8000. You can slowly build combos with the remaining cards in your deck, then defeat your opponent in a single move. Guardian Sphinx This is a powerful monster, although its a single-tributing monster. Not by power but by its effect. The power to return all your opponent's monsters back to his/her hand is amazing. It's like a monster-affect Giant Trunade, but only on your opponent's side of the field. Another downside of this card is that its effect is not a flip effect, but a flip summoning effect, which means that the effect won't be activated if your opponent attacks this face down card and this card changes into face up defense position. Fortunately, another one of its effects is that you may change it from face up to face down defense position. The good thing about this card is its high defense. Not many monsters have the power to destroy a 2400-defence monster in defense position. So after you set it face down, and one of your opponent's monster attacks, you opponent will lose some of his/her life points if the monster's attack strength isn't high enough. On your next turn, you can change it into face down defense position again, forcing your opponent to attack it and lose his/her life points once more because he/she's too scared of its fatal effect. Moreover, it will be invulnerable to cards like Fissure or Ekibyo Drakmord, since it'll be face down during your opponent's turn, unless your opponent is willing to lose some of his/her life points to attack this monster before using one of the above mentioned Magic Card. You can combo this card with Book of Taiyou to get its effect activated immediately. Spirit Reaper This is a great card for stalling. This card can never be destroyed as the result of a battle, athough it has its own drawbacks. This card can be destroyed by any cards that specifically designate this monster as a target, even if the effects are not meant to destroy this card. This can be an advantage as well. It means this card will be destroyed instead if your opponent uses Snatch Steal, Change of Heart or Ekibyo Drakmord. Unfortunately, cards like Hane-Hane or Mysterious Guard will simply destroy it. It can by very helpful if your opponent runs a beatdown deck, unless they use equip cards. Besides, this card has not been restricted so far, so it'll be great if you play three of these in your deck. If you're lucky enough, your opponent may discard his/her precious Axe of Despair, Limiter Removal or even United We Stand. Although its defence is impenetrable, beware of cards like Fairy Meteor Crush, Spear Dragon and Airknight Parshath. They can be very dangerous to your life points if you cannot use this card as a tribute summon quick enough. Not only its amazing defence, it also has a built-in Robblin' Goblin and White Magical Hat. If your opponent has no monster on the field, you may attack and discard his/her, hopefully, precious card, although you'll be exposed to attacks if your opponent gets to summon a strong monster; but this card has more advantages than its disadvantages, so it's still an awesome card. Man-Eater bug You can easily obtain this powerful card from Kaiba or Yugi Starter Deck. It may have weak attack and defence, but its flip effect is so powerful that it can destroy any monster, face up or face down. Your opponent's Blue Eyes White Dragon is no more of a threat. You can also choose its target, so if your opponent has a face down monster on the field and he/she doesn't summon anything else, that card might be powerful. You can destroy that monster easily without worrying about its effect. If you're lucky, you might have just destroyed a Fiber Jar or a Cyber Jar. This card can also be used defensively. Like I mentioned above, if your opponent summons a Blue Eyes White Dragon. This card is mostly self-explanatory, although some people still won't agree with it. I chose this card to be in the top ten because of my experience. This card has helped me survive many battles which at first was not in my favor. This card is better than Yomi Ship because Yomi Ship needs to be destroyed for its effect to activate, and it does not allow you to choose the monster you intended to destroy. Lava Golem This is a nice card for burner decks. You can destroy two of your opponent's monster and he/she loses 1000 life points on each of hi/her Standby Phases. Although giving your opponent a monster as powerful as Blue Eyes White Dragon sounds like a bad idea, there are many combos that can be done in order to prevent it from attacking. Spirit Reaper, for example, can guard your life points safely while watching your opponent desperately trying to find a way to destroy his/her own monster and remove it from the field before his/her life points go down to 0. Hane-Hane or Gravekeeper's Guard won't be a bad idea either; you can choose Lava Golem when Hane-Hane's or Gravekeeper's Guard's effect is activated, and it goes back to your hand, while your opponent has two of his/her monsters discarded. One of the best combos you can play is by using Nightmare Wheel and Mask of Restrict while Lava Golem is on you opponent's side of the field. With that combo, your opponent will lose 2000 life points in your and your opponent's Standby Phase; in addition, Lava Golem can't attack, renders its 3000 attack points useless. This card must be used with strategy and caution, or it will backfire on you. Mucus Yolk Last but not least, we have come to the last monster in my top 10 list, Mucus Yolk. It requires good strategy and skill to be played correctly, and it works wonders if played in a defensive deck. First, let us look at its attack and defence. It has 0 attack point and 100 defence points; so many people won't treat of it as much as a threat. Its second effect, the effect to attack your opponent directly and if you do, increase this monster monster's attack points by 1000 on your next Standby Phase; this is the key for its awesome power. Combo this with Heart of Clear Water and Gravity Bind and the game is almost yours. Firstly, this card can't be Trap Holed or Bottomless Trap Holes since it has such a low attack point, and to attack your opponent's life points, you'll need to power up this monster with one or more equip cards. Let's say you equip it with Malevolent Nuzzler, this card will be as strong as Jinzo #7, but a few turns after, if your opponent hasn't been able to destroy this card, the game is yours. On the first turn, when you attack your opponent, he will have only 7300 life points left. On your next Standby Phase, this monster is powered up by its own effect, and its attack is boosted by 1000, making it as strong as Warrior Dai Grepher which can attack directly, leaving your opponent's life points to 5600. On your next turn, it'll be as strong as Mystical Knight of Jackal, and your opponent is left with 2900. On the last turn, your Mucus Yolk is more powerful than Blue Eyes White Dragon, and it can attack directly, wiping off the last of your opponent's life points, making this card as powerful, if not more powerful , than Destiny Board, although this is not a card that can be used easily.
