There’s been something strange in this neighborhood, alright. Hello Pojo Readers, Crunch$G here to tell you about the sequel set to last year’s Ghosts From the Past as we now have The 2nd Haunting. As you expect, we got more Ghost Rares, even more than last year’s set as well as we go from 5 Ghost Rares in the set to 9 Ghost Rares. In exchange, they’re more common to pull, and I’ll address that whole situation at the end of this article. Besides the Ghost Rares, we got a bunch of new cards and a ton more reprints in this set. It’s mostly to finish up the Legendary Gold Box cards from Japan with the new protagonist and rival cards alongside getting the retrained Agent Structure Deck cards in here and a bunch of promos they got through the VJump mainly. Reprints are all over the place, with more tournament relevant cards than last year, alongside reprinted cards for recently supported archetypes and foil upgrades in general. It’s a massive 180+ card set, so I’ll have a lot to dive into to give a full idea of this set.

The Ghost Rares

First, I got to cover the 9 Ghost Rares in this set, right? Well this time around we are going for a more classic monster focus with  of 9 Ghost Rares in this set being tied to the Duel Monsters era as we see appearances from Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Red-Eyes Black Dragon, Dark Magician Girl, The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode, Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, and the first Spell Card to get the pure Ghost Rare foiling in the TCG and the second to be a Ghost overall: The Eye of Timaeus. The GX era gets some representation next with 2 of the 9 Ghosts being from this era with both Cyber Dragon and Dark Armed Dragon, two of the most iconic competitve cards from the era. Finally, the last of the 9 Ghost Rares goes to 5D’s as we can work towards completing the Signer Dragons in Ghost Rare with Red Dragon Archfiend finally coming in the rarity.

Anime Aces Reimagined

So as I mentioned, we finally got all the protaganist and rival cards from the Legendary Gold Box in here, finishing up that set after 2.5 years from its initial release in the OCG. Crystal Beast Rainbow Dragon is a new Level 8 Crystal Beast that upon destrucution in the Monster Zone can go to the Spell/Trap Zone instead as a Continuous Spell, just like the other Crystal Beasts, alongside the effect to Special Summon itself from the hand when an attack is delcared involving a Crystal Beast monster and it can banish itself from the Spell/Trap Zone when it’s a Continuous Spell to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Crystal Beast from the Deck with its effects negated and also search for an Ultimate Crystal monster from the Deck. D/D/D Vice King Requiem is a new Pendulum Monster for the archetype with a Pendulum Effect to target and destroy any number of Dark Contracts you control to Special Summon this card and increase its Level by the number of destroyed cards and a Monster Effect that only lets you Special Summon D/D/D monsters and a D/D/D that used this as Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link Material gains the effect where once per turn you get to target a card on the field and shuffle a Dark Contract from your field or graveyard into the Deck to destroy the target and gain 1000 LP. Elemental HERO Neos Kluger is a new Fusion between Elemental HERO Neos and Yubel and must be Fusion Summoned, inflcits damage to the opponent equal to the ATK of a monster it battles before damage calculation, and if it’s destroyed in battle or leaves the field by an opponent’s card effect while the owner controls it, you can Special Summon a Neos Wiseman from the hand or Deck, ignoring the summoning conditions. Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon Overload is a new Rank 7 Pendulum Xyz that only needs 2 Level 7s to summon, has a Pendulum Effect to Special Summon itself from the Pendulum Zone and then Xyz Summon a Phantom Knights or Rebellion Xyz by using it as material and then you can attach a card in your Pendulum Zone to that monster as material, and it has the Monster Effect to also be able to be Xyz Summoned by using a Rebellion Xyz you control, can be Pendulum Summoned if you can Pendulum Summon Level 7 monsters, can make up to 3 attacks during the Battle Phase if you used a Rank 7 as material, and can be placed in the Pendulum Zone if it is destroyed in the monster zone. Decode Talker Heatsoul is a Link-3 Cyberse that needs 2+ Cyberse monsters with different Attributes to summon, gains 500 ATK for each monster it points to, has a Quick Effect to let you pay 1000 LP to draw a card and then if your LP are 2000 or less, you can apply the effect to banish this card from the field to summon a Link-3 or lower Cyberse from your Extra Deck that isn’t another Heatsoul. Finally, Borrelend Dragon is a new Link-5 that needs 3+ Effect Monsters to summon, cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects and neither player can target it for monster effects, it can attack all monsters the opponent controls once each, and it has a Quick Effect to target a monster on the field and a Rokket in the graveyard to negate the effects of the monster on the field and summon the Rokket from the graveyard with the opponent being able to activate cards or effects in response to this effect’s activation.

The Celestial Agents

Now we get to the brand new support for The Agent archetype, with all the cards the OCG got in their retrained Lost Sanctuary Structure Deck, which now it seems all the retrained Structure Decks will go into side products. I digress. Majesty Hyperion is a Level 8 DARK Fairy who can be Special Summoned from your hand or graveyard by banishing a The Agent monster from your hand, field, or graveyard, inflicts any battle damage you’d take involving your Fairy monsters to your opponent as well, and has a once per turn effect to banish a The Agent from your hand or graveyard to banish a card in either player’s graveyard, with this effect being able to be used up to twice per turn if The Sanctuary in the Sky is on the field or in either graveyard. The Agent of Life – Neptune is a Level 1 LIGHT Fairy who can be discarded to summon a The Agent monster besides Neptune from your hand or graveyard, or you can instead summon a Hyperion monster if The Sanctuary in the Sky is on the field or in either graveyard, with neither player being able to tribute a monster summoned by this effect until the end of the opponent’s turn, also upon being banished you can add a The Sanctuary in the Sky from your Deck to your hand. The Executor of the Underworld – Pluto is a Level 5 DARK Fairy Synchro Tuner with generic summoning materials, is always treated as a The Agent monster, has an effect to banish a monster from your graveyard to target an Effect Monster on the field and change it to face-down Defense Position, with this becoming a Quick Effect if The Sanctuary in the Sky is on the field or in either graveyard, and can be banished from the graveyard to add a The Sanctuary in the Sky from your Deck or graveyard to your hand. Masterflare Hyperion is a Level 10 LIGHT Fairy Synchro that needs non-Tuner Fairies to summon, can send any The Agent monster or any monster that mentions The Sanctuary in the Sky in its text from your hand, Deck, or Extra Deck to the graveyard to copy that card’s name and effects until the End Phase, and it also has a Quick Effect when your opponent activates a card or effect to banish a Fairy from your hand or graveyard to target a card on the field and banish it. Protector of the Agents – Moon is a Link-2 LIGHT Fairy that needs 2 Fairy monsters to summon, upon Link Summon can send a The Sanctuary in the Sky or any card that mentions it from the Deck to the graveyard, or if The Sanctuary in the Sky is already on the field or in either graveyard you can instead add a The Agent of Mystery – Earth from your Deck or graveyard to your hand instead, also it has a second effect to tribute a Fairy you control to target a card the opponent controls and destroy it. The Chorus in the Sky is a Normal Spell that lets you pay 1000 LP to target a Fairy monster in your graveyard and add it to your hand, then if The Sanctuary in the Sky is on the field or in either player’s graveyard, you can add a banished The Sanctuary in the Sky or any card that mentions it back to your hand. The Sacred Waters in the Sky is a Normal Spell that lets you activate The Sanctuary in the Sky from your Deck or add a monster that mentions it from your Deck to your hand, then if The Sanctuary in the Sky is on the field or in either graveyard, you can gain 500 LP for each Hyperion or The Agent monster you control, also you can banish this card from the graveyard instead if any of your monsters that mentions The Sanctuary in the Sky would be destroyed in battle. Finally, Fallen Sanctuary is a Continuous Trap that when activated can set a copy of The Sanctuary in the Sky or any Spell/Trap that mentions it directly from the Deck, is treated as The Sanctuary in the Sky while on the field or in the graveyard, and can let you banish a Fairy in your graveyard to target an Effect Monster the opponent controls and negate its effects until the end of the turn.

Finally, we get all the miscellanous reprints that were needed or go along well with recent stuff in this or other sets, or just nice foil upgrades in general with apperances from Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands, Alien Ammonite, Malefic Cyber End Dragon, Doppelwarrior, Mecha Phantom Beast Coltwing, Box of Friends, Galaxy Soldier, Raiza the Mega Monarch, Deskbot 001, Retaliating “C”, Cipher Twin Raptor, Wandering King Wildwind, Reptilianne Lamia, Dark Magician the Dragon Knight, Quintet Magician, Fossil Warrior Skull Knight, Nirvana High Paladin, Cupid Pitch, Princess Cologne, Sky Cavalry Centaurea, Number 38, Number 60, Number 97, Crystron Halqifibrax, The Flute of Summoning Kuriboh, Advanced Ritual Art, Reptilianne Spawn, Domain of the True Monarchs, Fossil Fusion, and Pendulum Area.

In Conclusion

Overall, we 100% have an upgrade over last year’s Ghosts From the Past. The Ghost Rare choices this year are overall much better, even if I do think it leans a little too much towards the Duel Monsters era. The pull rates are much better as well, with 2-3 per case being a standard that’s more satasifying compared to last year where you mainly got 1 if lucky. I do know of the super lucky cases with 4-7 Ghost Rares that seem somewhat common, and thankfully less common are the 0 Ghost Rare cases from what I’ve seen. The reprints in here do hold better value than last year’s as well, and more of them feel necessary for a competitive perspective like Aluber and Halqifibrax to name a few. A bunch of the reprints were highly needed in general while others were just nice foil upgrades. There’s still a few reprints that feel like wasted spots and nobody would of batted at eye at if they never got reprinted. As for the new cards, they’re nice to finally get over here. Finally having the Legendary Gold Box complete and having cards like Heatsoul and Borrelend finally legal over here is nice, and Neos Kluger is a nice part for a HERO collection. The Agent Structure Deck is nice since most of the stuff is pretty accessible in the set and at least comes all foil vs a Structure Deck where some of it could of came common. The remaining imports don’t have anything too insane, some nice cards in general, but mostly this feels like a way to get some of these cards over here in a more timely matter. It’s a great set to open I feel like, as the Ghost Rare chase does seem interesting now it’s more likely you’ll pull one or even multiples, and even without a Ghost Rare, you’ll get some nice cards more than likely from some of your packs.

Thanks for reading,
