World Championship Tournament

Paris, France (10 October, 2008) – Continuing the globe-trotting tradition of the World of Warcraft® Trading Card Game World Championship Tournament, Upper Deck (UD) today announced plans to bring the event to Austin, Texas in 2009. To be held at the Austin Convention Center, October 8th – 11th, 2009, the 2009 World of Warcraft TCG World Championship Tournament will feature a prize pool worth more than $250,000! “Given the global nature of the World of Warcraft TCG player base, we are pleased to bring the World Championship Tournament back to the U.S. in 2009,” said Scott Gaeta, Director of Marketing and Organized Play for Upper Deck. “We are making this announcement today in an effort to get the word out to players as soon as possible, so they can begin planning their 2009 tournament season.”

To qualify for the 2009 World of Warcraft TCG World Championship Tournament, players compete in numerous contests held around the globe, including regional tournaments, Darkmoon Faire Championship Tournaments and continental championships. Winners of these contests represent their respective countries at the World Championship Tournament event. Players can also qualify for national and continental championship tournaments with “honor ranking points” or “rating points” earned by playing in UD-sanctioned tournaments.
