The Knights of Gotham: Part 1, Supporting Cast

In this installment of The Knights of Gotham I will be discussing 3 of the best supporting characters for the Gotham Knights team.  When I say “supporting” I am reflecting on that characters ability to support other characters that are on the field.  In the VS system having powers to support other characters on the field is the deciding factor of the outcome of your game.  Here is the first card I would like to shed the spotlight on:

Alfred Pennyworth, Faithful Friend

Recruit: 1

ATK/DEF: 1/1

Gotham Knights

Alfred Pennyworth comes into play exhausted.

Activate, return Alfred Pennyworth to owner’s hand à Search your deck for a plot twist or equipment card, reveal it, and put it into your hand.  Shuffle your deck.  Use this power only if you control another Gotham Knights character.

Here is a card that should be in every Gotham Knights deck.  His ability to search for both plot twists and equipment is simply amazing.  At 1/1 he is the average for the 1 recruit characters but his ability makes up for that.  His drawbacks include coming into play exhausted and having another Gotham Knights character to activate his effect.  A great advantage to having Alfred (as opposed to Dr. Doom’s Boris) is his ability to return to your hand after he is activated.  Alfred will be seeing a lot of playing time as the Gotham Knights look to be a top contender.

Being able to search out plot twists to increase your other characters abilities is a major plus in VS, but what if one character can increase another characters stats depending on their size by simply exhausting.  That is what Tim Drake<>Robin does for other Gotham Knights characters.  Let’s check the stats:

Tim Drake<>Robin, The Boy Wonder

Recruit 2

ATK/DEF: 3/2

Gotham Knights

Activate à Target Gotham Knights attacker gets +X ATK this attack where X is the cost of that attacker.

It’s no surprise that they call this kid the Boy Wonder.  For a 2 recruit character his stats are above average at 3/2, which means he can stand alone for the turn he is dropped.  What makes this guy so amazing is his ability to give his teammate an increase in attack according to their recruit cost.  Superman can have +8, Batman (Dark Knight) can have +7, Azrael and Nightwing can both have +6.  The extra increase in attack could finish the game for you, and all Robin has to do is sit in the back and chill.  Gotham Knight decks will be working to protect Drake till the end for the big guys to get the amazing increase.

You’ve seen the ability to search and the ability to increase attack, but I believe the most important aspect of VS is the ability to reinforce and that is what this next card does best.

Dick Grayson<>Nightwing, Defender of Bludhaven
Recruit 6
ATK/DEF: 12/12

Gotham Kngihts

Whenever Dick Grayson stuns a character draw a card

Discard a Gotham Knights character card from your hand àTarget defender has reinforcement this attack.

Nightwing’s first ability can be a real help in getting the card that you need to seal the game, but I want to focus on his second ability.  Discarding a Gotham Knights character to reinforce a target defender is simply amazing.  If your opponent pulls off a flying kick to hit your only support row character Grayson gives him the ability to reinforce saving you from what could have been a great deal of damage.  Essentially, if Grayson is kept from being stunned all your characters are protected from breakthrough damage.

There you have it, the best of the supporting cast for the Gotham Knights.  In Part 2 I will be discussing the powerhouses of the Gotham Knights character.
