Garth <>Tempest – Atlantean Sorcerer

So this guy’s supposed to be like an Aquaboy, right?  It doesn’t matter what his name is.  I’d call him God if that’s what he wants.  By any other name Garth is still by far and away the greatest thing that ever happened to me in a card game.  As his effect reads, pay three endurance to return any card from your KO’d pile to your hand.  That means you can return any card from your KO’d pile to your hand.  Do you understand yet? You can return ANY card from your KO’d pile to your hand.  To think it’s not even an activated power.  Garth actually makes it a good idea to play all of your plot twists from your hand.  Just stop for a moment and think of all the plot twists you’d love to have all 4 copies of in your hand to play all at once.  Garth is the next best thing to that.  Imagine attacking with your Starfire, then flipping a Savage Beatdown from your resource row, then another from your hand, then paying a measly 3 endurance to get that one back to play again.  Yup, 15 attack boost all at once.  Or maybe you need to stop a big attack coming your way - pay 3, and take back a Heroic Sacrifice.  Need to clear your opponent’s side of the field a little for him?  Drop your Tim Drake as Robin, pay his boost, play your Teen Titans Go, pay 3 do it again….and so on and so on and so on an….

Beyond his effect there’s not much else to say.  He’s a 9/9 for a cost of 5, completely standard - nothing to boast about.  That, however, is not the point and if you can’t see beyond attack and defense of this card go find a new team, we don’t want you.

Teen Titan Constructed Deck - 75/5….Yup, you read it correctly….75.

Limited – 4/5….He lost a point because of his loyalty factor….take him anyway and send him to me if you don’t want it.

“Wait up guys, I fell on my keys.”

Didn’t think you’d get away without a Wayne’s World quote now did you??

Want to write to me and tell me I’m doing a great job this week?  Or maybe just to tell me I suck or ask me a question?  Write to me at Darkmagiciandog@aol.com.  Oh yeah, I also do Yu-Gi-Oh too.

Johnny Blaze Garth as Tempest, Atlantean Sorcerer - The crux of many Titans decks. Some people love this cad others don’t like it too much. I’m on the fence. On the bright side you can fetch any card from your discard pile to your hand. But then on the flip side you lose 3 endurance. Keep this up and your opponent will have an easier time beating you.

Constructed: 3/5 – Im giving it a 3 because of the versatility of Garth’s power. It can be a game saver most of the time. Just don’t be stupid enough to keep on reusing it and taking the 3 endurance loss every time.

Limited: 2/5 – With loyalty this is how UDE kept this card at bay. Otherwise imagine all the decks Garth would see play in? For draft he is so-so. If your drafting Titans go for it. Otherwise he becomes too much of a liability.

I'll just tell you right now, Garth gets a 5. Yes, two 5's in one week, I'm shocked too. Honestly, if this card isn't worth a 5, then what is? Loyalty is barely a drawback, as Teen Titans are a great team to run either solo, or in a team up deck. 3 endurance is nothing in this game, especially compared to getting anything you want from your KO'd pile. 9/9 is a good body, and range means you can stick him in your support row for safekeeping, use his ability, and still be able to swing at your opponent. I can just imagine the wheeling and dealing that went on at Stately UDE Manor to keep this card as great as it is, they could have easily made it an activated effect, or lowered his stats, or anything to make this card less powerful. The game needs some powerhouse cards, and this is one that will give some people fits in tournament play.

In Limited, you do everything you can to make this card playable for you. You're only going to get 1 or
2 copies of really good cards, and getting to reuse them will give you all kinds of advantage over your opponent. Garth might almost be better in Limited than Constructed just for that reason. Just don't call him Gillhead...

Paul Hagan Garth * Tempest, Atlantean Sorcerer --

On the trip back from playtesting, me and a couple of buddies started asking what the best 1-Drop, 2-Drop, 3-Drop, etc. in the game was. With only one exception, a Marvel character came out on top. That exception was in the 5-Drop category, and the winner (just ahead of Thing, Heavy Hitter) was Garth.

Garth's ability makes silly combo decks work, allows Teen Titans to team-attack three times in one turn, and all sorts of other foolishness. His 9/9 body with Range doesn't hurt, either! I can almost guarantee that if it weren't for the fact that Garth had loyalty, he would be in almost every deck in the environment.

In limited, you do *have* to be in Teen Titans to play Garth (see: Loyalty), but if you are, then Garth is absolutely a first-pick. In fact, if there isn't a great option in your pack, you might consider counter-drafting Garth just to keep him out of Teen Titan opponents' hands.
