GCPD Officer Army

Looks like we are going to finish up the week with GCPD Officer, a card that I think is one of the most fun cards to play with out of GK.  Why do I like it so much?  Well, when run in a GCPD weenie rush deck, it provides a great way to keep your opponent at bay until you can pull out your 7-drop Batman.  The thing that makes these guys so good is that when they are exhausted, they are automatically reinforced.  Wow!  This means that you can run these guys in a regular GK deck, as they are great reinforcement material for your other characters.  Another thing that these characters provide that you seldom see in GK is range.  Never underestimate the power of characters with range, especially when you can combo them with cards like Cover Fire.  With a stat of 1/1 this card is a solid 1-drop that is extremely effective.

GK constructed 3.5/5.0 This card is not for every GK deck, but when you combine their effect along with all of the support it has, you really get a good card.

Limited 3.0/5.0 If you are getting a lot of GK characters then you should get as many of these cards as possible.

Johnny Blaze GCPD Officer, Army- The Blue Boys that protect Gotham. Better make it Batman instead. But really, for a 1 drop these guys are actually pretty nice. You see when they are exhausted they also have reinforcement. What this means is that you can exhaust a GCPD to gain reinforcement on one of them in order to prevent major BEL loss.

Constructed: 3/5- Combos well with Clock Tower, exhaust a GCPD and then look at the top card of your deck or how about Wayne Manor, exhaust a GK and gain 1 endurance. So you can gain endurance and also have the reinforcement benefit.

Limited: 2.5/5 - If you can also pull a Commissioner Gordon these guys combo well in draft. Hopefully you can at least get a couple GCPDs also.
I love Army characters, there's no doubt about it. I love swarming, I love team attacking with them, and I love grabbing handfuls of them with Longshot. GCPD has some great support cards, and has the potential to be a new deck in the current metagame. They combo great with Wayne Manor; Activate it to gain one endurance, and once exhausted, they reinforce themselves. Throw in Commissioner Gordon to power them up, use Harvey Bullock to exhaust your opponent's big attackers, or just activate them all to draw cards and pump up 7 drop Batman. I'm trying to find a good way to combo them with Sentinels...I just love the idea of all those Army characters out at once. This is an amazing utility card, and its going to see a lot of play, especially since GK can Fizzle itsworst
enemy: Flame Trap.

In Limited, go ahead and grab some. You'll see them at the end of the draft, and its got a good ability for a 1 drop. It also helps meet the Loyalty requirement for a lot of the good GK cards.

Paul Hagan GCPD Officer

I'm 50-50 on the Gotham Cops. On one hand, they are pretty lame on their own. You have, at best, a reinforced 1/1, so you can take your 1 endurance, and that's about it. However, when you get them in droves and with other cards, such as Cosmic Radiation or Batman, The Dark Knight, then the cops all of a sudden become a make-or-break character in a lot of decks. I mentioned Cosmic Radiation above, and that got me to thinking that GCPD Officer is much like Cosmic Radiation -- it doesn't belong in every Gotham deck (much like CR doesn't belong in every Fan-Four), but if you build your deck around them, then it can be stellar.

In limited, I'll just pass on the cops. However, check out my upcoming GenCon Report, Part Two, to see a fun story on GCPD Officers in draft.
