        | |  Lugia examines... Which is the best starting Pokemon in Gold/Silver? | |          Bonjour!
 Today
I will look at the three starter Pokemon. So, who's better: Hinoarashi,
Waninoko, or Chikorita? To answer this question, I
played the game three times (one per starter.) Here are my "Travel Logs" with each Pokemon.

 Hinoarashi

          | I decided to try my luck with Hinoarashi first, so here's how things went. Early in the game, you will meet plenty of grass Pokemon (and some electric Pokemon too.) Hinoarashi helped me through "Bellsprout Tower." In the process of climbing the tower, my Hinoarashi evolved at level 14. After getting HM05, I went to the gym. Again, Magumarashi handled the situation pretty easily. With Hinoarashi/Magumarashi/Bakufun the game was easier. Overall, the Hinoarashi line got me 6 badges! (wing badge, insect badge, regular badge, steel badge, ice badge and rainbow badge.) |

          | Attack Defense Speed Special Evade | 11 9 12  11 12 | Evolution:Hinoarashi evolves into Magumarashi at level 14! Magumarashi evolves into
       Bakufun at level 36 (ouch).

 Waninoko

          | After trying my luck with Hinoarashi, I switched to Waninoko. Early on, things didn't go well for Waninoko, but after some training, Waninoko overcame the grass Pokemon! I think that the Waninoko line is pretty tough but lacks special (the opposite of psychic.) Well, the Waninoko line got me 7 badges!!!! (the wing badge, insect badge, regular badge, steel badge, er... I used plenty of hyper potions for the steel badge, the volcano badge, boulder badge and the marsh badge which was easy with help from slash.) |

          | Attack Defense Speed Special Evade | 12 12 10  9 11 | Evolution: Waninoko evolves
into Airegitsu at level 18, Airegitsu evolves
      into Odairu at level 30.

 Chikorita

          | Chikorita is the "middle guy" of the group. Chikorita's stats seem to be so-so, not high, not low (that's how it went with my Chikorita anyaway.) Early on, Chikorita did well, but I had to trade a bellsprout for Onix to win the wing badge (guess why...) Onix also helped me with the insect badge (guess why again...) To tell you the thruth... the Chikorita line got me two badges (the boulder badge and the cascade badge.) But, Meganimu (Chikorita's last form) is quite useful against Bruno. |

          | Attack Defense Speed Special Evade | 9 11 10  9 11 | Evolution: Chikorita
evolves into Beirifu at level 16, Beirifu
evolves into Meganimu at level 32.

 Lugia recommends:
Pick the Pokemon you like! The three Pokemon are nice Pokemon, even though Chikorita didn't seem so good, give Chikorita a try anyway, it won't
dissapoint you. As I had said, pick your favorite, and have fun with your starter.
