Ursarctic Septentrion – Yu-Gi-Oh! Review

Ursarctic Septentrion
Ursarctic Septentrion

Ursarctic Septentrion – #ANGU-EN034

Cannot be Synchro Summoned. Must be Special Summoned (from your Extra Deck) by sending 2 monsters you control with a Level difference of 7 to the GY (1 Level 8 or higher Tuner and 1 non-Tuner Synchro Monster). Negate the effects of face-up monsters without a Level that were Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. If your opponent Special Summon a monster(s) (except during the Damage Step): You can add 1 “Ursarctic” card from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of “Ursarctic Septentrion” once per turn.

The week ends off with the main boss Synchro for the Ursarctics, Ursarctic Septentrion.

Septentrion is a Level 7 WATER Beast-Warrior Synchro with 3000 ATK and 700 DEF. A great ATK stat, fine typing and good Attribute. Just like Polari, this card cannot be traditionally Synchro Summoned, instead you send a Level 8 or higher Tuner alongside a non-Tuner Synchro whose Levels differ by 7, so this time you have to have your non-Tuner be the lower Level and it has to be a Synchro, which is intended to be Polari. Negate the effects of all face-up monsters on the field without a Level, an overall good effect to counter Links and Xyzs and any future summoning mechanic that doesn’t have Levels. Wish it could negate more sort of, but doing it to your monsters with Levels isn’t that good considering you won’t be Xyz heavy with Ursarctic and you’d do your Link stuff before doing regular Ursarctic plays. If your opponent Special Summons a monster, you can add any Ursarcic card from the Deck to the hand, which is pretty much a guaranteed summon if the opponent doesn’t get rid of this and plays a Deck that needs Special Summons. Weird the only way to get the Spells and Traps searched in this archetype is with the Synchro, but it’s fine considering how easy the condition is to meet and it can continuously search, though it’s a hard once per turn. Septentrion is a fine boss for the archetype and serves different purposes over Grand Chariot. You want to have this.

As we do traditionally, the week ends with Ursarctic Septentrion, the boss of the Theme.  3000 attack on a Level 7 Synchro is great (the 700 plays on the defense this time) and still a Water but Beast-Warrior this time.  As seen Monday, this guy can’t be Special Summoned, but from the Extra Deck, by sending two Monsters with a Level difference of 7 from your Field to your Grave.  Different from Monday, however, is this time you specifically have to use a Level 8 Tuner and a non-Tuner Synchro, so your non-Tuner is obviously going to be a Level 1 Monster.   (Hey, that little guy still fits the bill doesn’t he?)  All face-up Monsters without a Level have their Effects negated.  So instantly that shuts down XYZ and Link Monsters, and remember, this is ALL, so yours are included, BUT, also remember, this only hits Monsters that were Special Summoned from the Extra Decks.  So a lockdown, and one I enjoy seeing here, but one easy enough to work around, for both players.  But if your opponent can’t, it could spell trouble much sooner than not.  An opponent’s Special Summon, save the Damage Step, nets you a Theme card (any card) from your Deck to your Hand.  The Effect is optional AND we love our cost free, completely open Theme searches like that.  He’s got the attack, and honestly, the ‘hardest’ part should be dropping him to your Field.  Fun, solid card, to close the week.
