Ultimate Slayer – #POTE-EN062

Your opponent cannot activate monster effects in response to this card’s activation. Send 1 monster from your Extra Deck to the GY, then target 1 monster your opponent controls with the same card type (Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, or Link); shuffle it into the Deck.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Ultimate Slayer is a card anyone could logically play in their deck, though it would have been nice to have it be a Quick-Play.

Ultimate Slayer, Normal Spell that has a Spell Speed 4, good start to lock out countering it. 1-for-1 style effect: Foolish Burial an Extra Deck monster from your Extra Deck to cycle back a monster your opponent controls to their Deck. The monsters have to match their type (Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum or Link). This card pairs well with stuff that gain effects from hitting the graveyard that are in the Extra Deck. There are many choices to send to the graveyard from the Extra Deck now that will activate when sent there, so this card could see some play in the meta to get those secondary effect(s) off the monster you send. The new Garura Fusion, along with pretty much any Albaz Fusion, Shaddoll Fusion, Entity N’tess, will get you something when it comes to Fusion Monsters. Herald of The Arc Light came to mind for Synchro Monsters, Dante for Xyz and Burning Abyss. You don’t need to plus off this card though to make it worth while. Putting a card into your graveyard to get rid of an opponent’s monster without destroying it (potentially avoiding effect(s)) is worth it. Players don’t like taking -1’s but sometimes they are worth it.

Can’t help but think Ultimate Slayer would have been better as a Quick-Play, however, it does have good power behind it. Simple to use, anyone can use it, however, it looks like using it against Fusion Monsters at this current point in the meta would be best.

Want a more generic way to send cards from the Extra Deck to the graveyard with no real downsides? Here’s Ultimate Slayer.

Ultimate Slayer is a Normal Spell that the opponent cannot use monster effects in response to, so less likely to get negated. Said effect is to let you send a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, or Link from the Extra Deck to the graveyard to shuffle a monster of the same card type the opponent controls into the Deck. Pretty easy removal for Extra Deck monsters. Honestly, I don’t see this being used against Pendulums that often since most of them don’t really do much to threaten you and it’s mainly the other Extra Deck mechanics they help use. This card can help trigger some graveyard effects as well as with Fusion you got cards like Garura yesterday or Elder Entity N’tss, Synchro gives you options like PSY-Framelord Omega or Wind Pegasus @Ignister to send generically or Herald of the Arc Light if you got any Ritual stuff, and Link has Evil Twin’s Trouble Sunny for extra removal if you add an Evil Twin to dump off her. Xyz doesn’t have anything generic, Toadally Awesome is the best target so far and he only recover’s WATER monsters, but Darkwing Blast will have a generic Xyz to dump off this that has a graveyard effect for any Deck to use. It’s overall solid removal to have in the game against these powerful Extra Deck boss monsters. No targeting, no destruction/banishing, it just goes straight back to the Deck or Extra Deck to require effort into summoning again. This is probably the best way to design one-for-one monster removal in the modern game, since cards like Smashing Ground don’t cut it anymore.

Midweek brings us a Magic card, and the coolest name I’ve seen for a card in a minuet, in the Normal Magic-Ultimate Slayer.  For an immediate benefit here, we see your opponent can’t respond to this cards activation with Monster Effects.  That leaves some things open, of course, but it’s still a nice layer of protection to hopefully ensure you’re successful in playing this card.  This is a very cool disruption card, where you ditch a card from your Extra Deck to your Graveyard to send one of the same type belonging to your opponent (and everything is included here:  Synchro, Link, XYZ, Fusion, and even Pendulum) and shuffle their card back into their Deck.  That IS a -1, but a damn good.  You dump one (albeit from your Extra Deck) but the opponent’s Monster returning to the Deck is incredible, as opposed to just going to the Graveyard, where access is all to easy to bring it back.  I also love, for the first time this week, we don’t see any real restriction on here, and you can use more than one of these a Turn, which I think makes it that much more powerful.  This is something I think that could easily become a Side-Deck or Tech staple, at least in the now.  It’s a fun card, a disruptive one, and one that doesn’t harm the player at all.  Nothing here really not to like.

Art:  4.5/5  This is just a BIT hard to make out at a glance, but once you do, it’s pretty freaking sweet.  The use of colors are fantastic, and the lights and dark compliment and contrast each other very well too.

Another card seeing a lot of meta buzz, though this one was already introduced in the OCG. Ultimate Slayer (or “Artemate Slayer” as many are still used to) is a Normal Spell. Much like Dark Ruler No More, your opponent can’t respond to it with monster effects, which goes right into its main effect: by sending a monster from your Extra Deck to the Graveyard, you can target and shuffle one of your opponent’s monsters of the same type (that is, Fusion, Synchro, Pendulum, Xyz, or Link) into the deck. While conditional, as long as your deck can afford the Extra Deck slots, you have an incredibly powerful boardbreaker against most decks in the meta. In addition to being removal, you can send Extra Deck monsters with Graveyard effects for extra mileage:

Fusion: Elder Entity N’tss (destruction), Garura, Wings of Resonant Light (draw 1)

Synchro: Wind Pegasus @Ignister (bounce)

Xyz: None in particular for now, but there is an upcoming Xyz monster that can negate effects. Otherwise there’s just Toadally Awesome (recycles a WATER monster)

Link: Tri-Brigade Ferrijit the Barren Blossom (draw 1, place 1 on bottom of deck), Evil Twins’ Trouble Sunny (can banish to send Evil Twins Ki-sikil & Lil-la for a non-targeting send)

The obvious weakness, of course, is that the monsters you can send depend on your opponent’s board state, but if you’re running Ultimate Slayer, you probably have the meta intuition to know what to use. Overall a very interesting anti-meta card; currently it’s seeing play as an alternative to Dark Ruler No More, as sending Trouble Sunny can do a number on the Spright Frog board. We shall see if it continues to be a power staple.

Art: 4/5 This is the second time Apollousa is randomly in a card art, not that I’m complaining!
