Thousand-Eyes Restrict – Yu-Gi-Oh! Card of the Day

Thousand-Eyes Restrict

Thousand-Eyes Restrict – #PSV-084

“Relinquished” + “Thousand-Eyes Idol” – Other monsters on the field cannot change their battle positions or attack. Once per turn: You can target 1 monster your opponent controls; equip that target to this card (max. 1). This card’s ATK/DEF become equal to that equipped monster’s. If this card would be destroyed by battle, destroy that equipped monster instead.

From Relinquished to his original Fusion, who has spent some time Forbidden: Thousand-Eyes Restrict.

TER is a Level 1 DARK Spellcaster Fusion with 0 ATK and DEF. Basically the same as Relinquished. Fusion Materials are Relinquished and Thousand-Eyes Idol. Relinquished is fine, but I don’t recommend running Thousand-Eyes Idol just to Fusion Summon this. A Level 1 vanilla with the same stats is pretty bad. At the very least you got Golden-Eyes Idol as a retrain if you wanted to actually Fusion Summon this thing. Other monsters on the field cannot change battle positions or attack, which might be a slight obstacle for you, but can really get in the way of the opponent as well. Other than that, you got all the same effects here as you see on Relinquished minus the opponent taking effect damage when you would take battle damage with this, considering that shouldn’t come up all that often when the opponent can’t attack. It’s basically Relinquished in the Extra Deck, and that was fine for years when we had Metamorphosis around since this was one of the most popular targets to summon off it with any Level 1 like a Scapegoat Token. It was so popular that it was banned, and stayed banned even after we lost Metamorphosis due to the release of Instant Fusion making that card free monster removal basically if they released this back in 2007. Instead we’d have to wait about a decade for this to come back, and while it wasn’t broken anymore, it was still a highly popular Instant Fusion target, especially as soon as Elder Entity Norden took a hit. Now, we only have 1 Instant Fusion and no Metamorphosis in the game. So… with only 1 Instant Fusion, you got to pick your choice wisely for the target since you don’t want to cram your Extra Deck with targets for a 1-of really, so you just go with whatever helps you most, which might be this. At least now we can Fusion Summon this in a Relinquished Deck without running a Level 1 vanilla, even if Golden-Eyes Idol isn’t exactly amazing. It’s still a worthwhile consideration for an Instant Fusion target as well if you choose to use the 1 copy of that you’re allowed, but the card is hurt with the best cards that summoned it being banned or limited.

Advanced Rating: 3.5/5

Art: 5/5 I called Relinquished creepy, but this guy here is a real looker.

What else could we have been talking about without directly talking about yesterday.  Pretty much everything said about Relinquished yesterday holds true for Thousand-Eyes Restrict today.  This, while not either the game changer it use to be, withstood the test of time well enough, and like its friend, gained some new life and playability with recent support released for itself as well.  Also every bit as good as the show, again, if not better, and certainly even creepier, even on the card.  TER even saw itself Banned for a while back in the heyday of its popularity.  Not quite a Yata or CED level of fear stemmed for this card, but it usually meant bad things when it dropped.  Not the force, and not quite as fast as it was, but certainly still usable, as we’ve seen.

Rating:  3/5  Doesn’t seem fair to give a different rating from Relinquished; all things considered.

Art:  4.75/5  This is EASILY 200% creepier than Relinquished, but that aside, I think Relinquished does have better art, ever so slightly.
