||Today we have
a very important person in the world of The Spoils.
The rare Gearsmith character Jo Ciendeilio.
For those who know who David Acrolos is, you’re
already familiar with Jo, aka Torque.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, this
character gave the people in our world a glimpse
into the world of The Spoils through the blog of

Jo represents another sub-theme of a trade.
Gearsmith provides many ways to reduce costs. While
a cost 5 threshold 4 character that has only 1 life
doesn’t seem too appealing, her ability is:
Deplete this card. The next numeric cost you pay
this turn costs up to 3 less.
Let’s speak for a moment about “numeric cost”. The
number printed in the upper left corner of
non-resource cards is the “cost number”. Add this to
any part of the text on the card that makes
reference to a cost of “X” (if there is one) and you
have the “numeric cost”.
Once you have that number, reduce it by up to 3.
Remember, no number in The Spoils can go below 0.
And unlike cards that reduce the cost of a card
only, Jo reduces the cost of anything. Want to draw
a card for free? Deplete Jo. Want to play a
character for free, tutor for any gear with a cost
of 5 or less and attach it to that character?
Deplete Jo, play 700160x 31f and dig for the gear of
your choice. Obviously the choices are endless.
In limited, 4 threshold plus 1 life equals no thank
you. In constructed, Gearsmith has so many cost
reducing options that Jo is likely to be shelved for
less expensive option.
