doc We start the first week of April with the uncommon Arcanist fool Deceptive Muddler.

For a cost of 4 with a threshold of 1, this 2/1/3 Covert character is another example of cost doesn’t equal stats. Even if they are Covert stats. So what’s the trade off? “Counter draw” (I just made that up).

What is “counter draw” you ask? Its ability to force your opponent to put a card from hand to the top of their deck. Effectively, it erases their next card draw costing them 6 (3 for loss of card and 3 to draw it back). I’d say that’s a worth while effect! Now let’s compare this to a similar Arcanist card, Lugubrian Octopod.

The Octopod has the same cost but 4 times the threshold. Same life, but 1 and 2 less strength and speed respectively. If it inflicts damage to your opponents faction they must discard 2 cards which effectively costs them 6 also. If you’re going for threshold that high in Obsession, why not use both! Of course their BIG drawback…1 life. Lots of ways to remove them from the field.

If you can hit one time, you’re almost even but set their game back. Hit more than once and we’re talking about a big advantage.

In limited, one threshold gives it a thumbs up. In constructed, there are lots of other comparable cards, so only time will tell if this one’s a keeper.

Ian Spiegel Deceptive Muddler

Today we look at the uncommon Deceptive Muddler of the Arcanist trade. He's a four cost character with two strength, one life and three speed.

He fits well into the discard niche the Arcanist trade showcases like none other. He has keyword covert and the ability to make an opponent put a card from their hand to the top of their deck when it deals damage.

He's pretty good late game after your opponent's destruction has been exhausted some, and really good in multiples. In constructed, it will find its place in control players hearts, and in limited it is another character with a neat ability.

Limited: 3.5
