If this card is Special Summoned: You can shuffle up to 2 cards from any GY(s) and/or banishment into the Deck. During the End Phase, if this card is in the GY because it was sent there this turn: You can add 1 “Dogmatika” or “Tri-Brigade” card from your Deck to your hand.

Albaz reaches a new form with the second card from this support wave in The Dragon that Devours the Dogma.

The Dragon that Devours the Dogma is a Level 8 DARK Beast Fusion with 3000 ATK and 2500 DEF. Strong stats for any monster to have, DARK is always great, and Beast is good if you do a Tri-Brigade Branded mix potentially considering its graveyard effect. Fusion Materials are Fallen of Albaz along with any LIGHT or DARK monster and any Effect Monster, really making Fallen of Albaz that much better of a board breaker while also giving an option to recover more resources with Lubellion the Searing Dragon’s effect. While an Ecclesia monster is on the field or in the graveyard, this card gains 500 ATK and is unaffected by other card effects, offering some great protection if you reach your Ecclesia, giving it more of a reason to be ran in a Branded Deck and being perfect for a Dogmatika Deck with Albaz. The remaining effects are each a HOPT, first triggering upon Special Summon to shuffle up to 2 cards from the graveyards and/or banishments back into the Deck, either letting you put resources back into the Deck for later or put cards back in the opponent’s Deck they wanted in their grave or banishment. The other effect triggers during the End Phase if it was sent to the graveyard that turn, searching for any Dogmatika or Tri-Brigade card from your Deck, giving a slight consistency boost to both Decks, though being an End Phase search likely means you’d rather likely use this off The Fallen & The Virtuous on the opponent’s turn to enter your turn with the new resource. It’s a solid new boss monster, making Albaz a better board breaker and giving Branded more options, it comes with decent protection if you get to any of the Ecclesias, it puts grave and banished resources back into the Deck to benefit you or disrupt the opponent, and it self replaces if sent to the graveyard to give it some merit in Dogmatika or Tri-Brigade. For sure a staple in Branded for the Fusion option and Dogmatika for the target off Punishment and The Fallen & The Virtuous at the very least, maybe a Tri-Brigade Branded Deck can work too.

As for Genesys, this did get 10 points on release so it becomes more costly to use The Fallen & The Virtuous generically, joining the other Fusions with a point cost now. Still likely has merit as one of your Fusion options in Genesys Branded, though.

Albaz gets yet another form that, unfortunately, is a little underwhelming compared to The Fallen & The Virtuous; The Dragon that Devours the Dogma is our actual final card of the week, a level 8 DARK Beast Fusion monster and a sort of spin on Brigrand the Glory Dragon. Dogma Dragon is our first and only Albaz Fusion that takes 3 materials, requiring Fallen of Albaz, a LIGHT or DARK monster, and any Effect monster. If it weren’t for the LIGHT or DARK monster requirement, it’d easily be the most versatile Albaz Fusion for Super Polymerization purposes, so I kind of get it. Dogma Dragon’s stats are on the second tier of Albaz Fusions, boasting the standard Blue-Eyes spread of 3000 attack and 2500 defense– a little weird since this is the transition stage before Brigrand, but what do I know?

Of course, I immediately eat my words, as Dogma Dragon gains 500 attack becomes unaffected by other card effects as long as an Ecclesia monster is on the field or in either Graveyard. Like with TFTV from yesterday, this will be much, much better once we get the new Ecclesia Synchro monster and Albaz monster, which will make getting an Ecclesia into rotation extremely simple. Until then, you’re expected to use an Ecclesia as Fusion material to make this and make its protection and stat boost live. I won’t lie when I say a 3500 Towers beater is actually kind of scary, though we’ll see why it’s usually not the first choice for an Albaz Fusion. Dogma Dragon comes with 2 hard once per turn effects, the first triggering on Special Summon to shuffle up to 2 cards from either player’s Graveyard or banishment into the deck. It’s nothing too special since Lubellion the Searing Dragon already had recycling down and Graveyard disruption, while, nice, usually isn’t something to specifically go for unless you had no choice. That said, it is a decent meta call this time around since otherwise it’s annoying to get rid of Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi. Dogma Dragon’s final effect is its obligatory Graveyard effect, triggering during the End Phase if it was sent there that turn to let you search any Dogmatika or Tri-Brigade card. In practice, it’s basically a downgrade to Titaniklad the Ash Dragon as a Dogmatika searcher, though it has the benefit of being able to search Tri-Brigade Mercourier, letting you have a monster negate for your opponent’s turn. I think Dogma Dragon in a vacuum is quite underrated, especially in the landscape of decks that often fight uphill battles to overcome high-stat monsters with protection, but the hefty Fusion materials means it’ll often be sitting in the back seat, at least until the new support makes it much easier to field with the Ecclesia protection. Why Konami thought it deserves to be 10 points in Genesys is beyond me!
