Now that baseline Sylveon cards have been taken care of, it’s time for “rule-box” Sylveon cards! Sylveon-EX from Generations has been reviewed once by the review crew in April 2016. It was a decent card when it debuted, but seem to be power-creeped as time goes by, even more so now. This is a Basic Fairy type with 170 HP, Metal weakness, Darkness resistance, retreat cost of CC, and two attacks. Dress Up costs CC for 30 damage, plus 30 more damage if it has a Pokémon Tool attached to it. Precious Ribbon costs YYC for 100 damage, while also making you move a Y Energy from your Active Sylveon-EX to one of your Benched Pokemon, and heal 50 damage on that Benched Pokémon.

Precious Ribbon’s attack cost makes it hard to meet since there’s not many energy Acceleration for Fairy types at the time. Eventually there was Gardevoir-GX, whose Secret Spring ability lets you attach a Y energy from your hand to one of your Pokemon, but that wasn’t enough for Sylveon-EX to see play, even with that support. Dress Up, on the other hand, can be easily fueled up with Double Colorless Energy and a Pokémon Tool for the easy 60 damage, with Muscle Band, and later Choice Band, to further increase the damage you can deal. A Choice Band boosted Dress Up was enough to KO most XY-era Dragon types – that are worth multiple prizes – due to its weakness. The rest was unimpressive.

Ratings:

Standard: N/A (though when it debuted, this would have been a 2.5/5)

Expanded: 1.5/5

Trivia: I currently have 46 Sylveon-EX cards (3 regular and 43 Full Art print). It’s possible I could be collecting more, but the market price has recently increased in price, making it somewhat hard to make certain trades effectively.
