Doctrine of Fear (enemy characters within six squares gain -4 ATK)

CE: Allied commanders within six squares gain extra attack.

Today we look at one of the fun pieces of the set. The new Tarkin isn't much in the stat department, but most imperial commanders aren't. The HP is average and the attack and defense are a bit low. Then again you don't play most of the commanders for attack purposes anyway.

Tarkin has a new ability called Doctrine of Fear. Basically its a nice boost to your characters because it lowers your opponent's attack by four points. As fragile as Tarkin is this isn't something you are going to use often, but when your opponent moves in, its a good move to slide Tarkin in behind your big beat stick. Characters like Vader would effectively now have a 27 DEF!

His commander effect is where the real fun begins though. Every imperial squad plays Mas so you can ignore the within six restriction. Many of the Vaders, like CotF Vader, Lord Vader, or IC Vader all gain an extra attack. Sith Lord Emperor can now assault in for a double and then unleash a quad attack on the next turn! Thrawn and your various stormie commanders all gain extra attacks. I haven't seen Tarkin pop up much locally, but there are some really fun combos that you can do. One of which i will discuss on Thursday.

100pts: You won't get enough effective help here.

150pts: Here you can start to see him played, but your best option will be pumping up a Vader. You will need some serious offense and most commanders just are not built for attacking.

200pts: Here you can have a lot of fun with him with the various commanders. The best combo out side of a Vader, is one i will talk about on Thursday, but pumping a Vader or Sith Lord can be just wicked. I do not think he will ever be a top squad piece, but he has the benefit behind the hands of a good player to really make your opponent stop and think.
